Jobs - The Most Dangerous Kind

This article which is called The Most Dangerous Kind
talks about the most dangerous job. Most work has some risk, but some jobs are obviously dangerous, like police officer, fire fighter, and military. First, the police officer who works on the street can’t anticipate who will attack them while they patrol on the street. Second, fire fighters, when some building gets on fire, they fight with fires for survival. Last, military, they make dangerous situation and they train in dangerous situation, because they have to protect their country and themselves.

I think military is the most dangerous job, because they have to train their body and mind. They have to be strong. When I was getting army training, I got a lot of experience like hiking with heavy rucksack during whole a day, getting in gas room, throwing grenade or shutting the machine gun. That training was very dangerous, but that was very good experience. It made me strong.

Burger King promises healthier kids' meals

This article mentions that Burger King will provide healthier food for the kids who are under 12. They will make the similar food, such as french fries, but lower calories. They are trying to control the fat and sugars. Also, they use the organic applesauce and low-fat milk to decrease the total calories. Plus, Burger King is going to create new french fries which are made from apples not potatoes. They are trying to create not only healthy food, but also yummy food. In addition, Burger King also has salads and vegetable burger. Finally, the parents have to instruct their children how to eat correctly and guide them to eat healthier.

It’s very good to see the big company, Burger King, has this kind of change. Most of companies only think about their profits. They didn’t care about the consumer’s health. They would like to develop the food which is more delicious and more attractive, but not healthier. It is very difficult to disallow the kids to eat fast food. The fast food companies are trying to develop the lower calories and healthy food. It’s a good way to let kids eat healthier food. It’s easier than the parents to control them what they can eat in the fast food restaurants. However, the parents also have to teach them to choose the healthier food there.

How Can We Reduce Presentation Stress?

In the article "Reducing Presentation Stress" is about how we can reduce presentation stress and how we can keep ourselves from a lot of kinds of stress such as exam and presentation. The author says there are five physical skills to manage stress and they also help us to keep from stress, breath control, eye contact, hand placement, gestures, and vocal power. These skills are very important and we should use them during presentation.

I chose this article because when I began EAP2 in CESL, I had presentation every week at least 1 and I want to know a lot of skills; how could I keep myself from stress?. Moreover,I get a lot of information to support us or keep us from stress. First, we should take longer hours of sleep before presentation. Second, we should relax and take deep breath. Third, lighten up: we should smile or make fun. Also, we should get organized that arrange your information and what you have to present. Lastly, we should try to make some comedy.

Teacher charged with having sex with teen

In the article "Teacher charged with having sex with teen" talks about Karen Robbins whos had been charged with a criminal sexual conduct with 15 years old teenager and others. Also it talks about Wendie Ann who was sentenced to 10 years to jail after she found guilty for having sex with 11 years old student.

I found this article intersting because I could't imagine how can the teacher forget his job and his responsibility. I think it is good that in the United states they follow those people and find them guilty.

The violent crimes in U.S. rise

In the author talks about the violent crimes in U.S. rising. Last year, the FBI reported the violence in U.S. rose 1.8 percent. According to this article, “the number of robberies and arsons rose in large population centers, but the number of rapes and car thefts dropped, FBI data show” in 2007. The Bush administration spends $50 million to decrease the violence. The crime was in a lull between 2002 and 2004.

In my opinion, the first reason to increase the violence is video games, because when the children play this game they are going to try to do what they play. In this time, video games have been increased that means the crimes are going to increase. Second reason, the guns have been increased. I think 45 to 55 percent of people have gun. The gun is very dangerous because sometimes people may get mad at somebody and then s/he shot him or her. In fact, s/he do not want to do that, but s/he was mad and nervous and s/he could not control him/her predominate.

Online game incubates philanhropy

I found this article in MSNBC. The author mentions that there is a game called "Karma Tycoon". It is a free online game created by DoSomething.org. Unlike other online games, the main purpose of this game focuses on "volunteerism" and tries to help kids "not into killing people or racing cars". If you want to play this game, you have to pick up one type of nonprofit to manage and to reach a goal. In conclusion, playing this game can help people to learn how to set up their budget and to know the value of money.

I tried to play this game. The registration is very easy. I just filled in the username and password which I want, and also filled in my email. I received a confirm mail after I finished the registration. After I confirmed the registration, I could play this game by using the usernme and password that I chose to login the game. First of all, I must chose a place to start my nonprofit. I chose Columbus, Ohio because it is the easiest place that set up in this game. Second, I selected the Homeless Shelter to administrate. At the first time I didn't know how to play, but they showed some hints that helped me to play this game. The goal of the Homeless Shelter is to deal with the homeless problem. I have to care about the budget and expenses to keep this organization going. Also I have to find some grant to give me money to keep my nonprofit working. It is a good game, I think.

Using your mobile over an hour a day 'can harm hearing'

According to Macrae (2007, September 23) in his article on Daily Mail, we can have injury with using our mobile over an hour day. Research demonstrates that people who frequently use cellphone for longer than an hour a day have difficulty to hear. Also the other research which compared the hearing of young cell phone users and non users provides long terms regular users do not well make a distinction of sounds especially high-frequency sounds such as words including s,f,h,t and z. The problem was obviously in the right ear. When we recognize ear warming, ringing or feeling it is clogged up, they can be consider a sign of illness. Despite opponent’s assertion, the researcher claimed that we have to use mobile when necessary. On the other the Mobile Operators Association denies this research.

Today cell phone is the necessary of life. Naturally we can live without mobile, but we have to be ready to suffer. Because modern society requires more and more cell phone to use. Now, we are in the digital world. Improvement of science and technology allow us convenience life, however it also produces several disadvantages. Most disadvantages relates on our health. Macrae’s article is an example of this one. We need to be cautious about the improvement of technology, because we only tend to pursue more and more convenience. However convenience is not only a way to live. Sometimes we can found our life’s value in discomfort. Discretion is our attitude to live in a social upheaval.

5,000bags of salad mix sought in recall, Dole says most packages were sold in U.S.

I fund this article from chicagotribun.com. This article mentions Dole Hearts Delight salad mix are recalled because 5,000bugs were in salad mix. Also the products were soled in the U.S. This company also had recalled the same products that had E. coli which caused stomachache, kidney damage and run. The bacteria are bad for kids. In addition, this company had recalled many times.

I interested in this article because this company is too loose. This is not first time this company recalled a lot. However, this company do same mistake. I think they have to make the product more carefully. However, I do not want to eat this salad mix. I want to ask one question to this company “can you eat this salad mix??

A mere billion isn't so rich anymore

According to this article by Forbes.com, the article shows the richest people in America in many fields. For example, the richest person in sports is Micky Arison and the richest person in real estate is Sam Zell. In addition the article shows the youngest member of the Forbes and other information.

In my opinion, Forbes should show the people who pay most for the philanthropic organizations, because that will motivate the rich people to pay for the philanthropic organizations and that will help to reduce the poor people in the world.

Drivers losing five days a year to traffic jams

According to this article. US drivers lost 38 hours per year of their precious time.Because of too many cars, too many people, and too small organized system, this situation happened. Besides, this traffic problem has bad influence not only for drivers but also US economy. The waste of workers' time and oils raise about $78 million. For individuals and this society, we should solve this problem.

In my opinion, American society should have more ways to transport. In Japan, we have a good system of buses and trains, but even so we have traffic jams, which are not as terrible as the US. Also, there are many good points of reducing car population, for example, the decreasing of traffic accidents and people can do more exercise. Now, the US government should encourage people to take buses or trains for business, while that is not so efficient for business.

Facebook welcomes outside services By Arwa Alamoudi

Hi,

Facebook welcomes outside services

The Summary:

in the beginning of the article, it gives a brifely intoduction about Facebook clearify that facebook started three years after MySpace. Duck! Here comes Super Teacher!

I found this article at YAHOO! NEWS this week. This article is about one Japanese teacher. He is coaching the volleyball team. The 52 years old high school teacher was named "super teacher" by the local board of education in spite of having been reprimanded several times for using corporal punishment. He has thrown a chair at his student, however, he has been awarded the title because his strict teaching methods improved his student's performance. Japan's school system sometimes has been a hot topic of debate. Some politicians demanded stricter discipline, but others say children are already under too much pressure.

In my opinion, this teacher is not worth being award even if he made the volleyball team win. In japan, corporal punishment is strictly prohibited. If a teacher hit a student only once, he or she may have disciplinary dismissal. I think it too strict and Japanese are too sensitive to corporal punishment. However, throwing a chair is beyond discipline.

Low technologies, high aims

This New York Times article talks about what MIT is doing for the improvement of poor people’s quality of life. In fact, they developed a four-week design laboratory leaded by Amy Smith. This workshop has participation from abroad students and volunteer mentors, who receive challenges to design solutions for basic problems from poor communities that have limited resources. Hence, those teams have to work hard in a proposal and build prototypes for their projects. Ms. Smith thinks that design revolution should focus in critic issues for very poor people like water, food, energy and health.

I chose this article because it is important that universities work for the development of society in a practical way too. Usually, academic institutions prepare important information or studies about poorest people, give advices to the Governments or International Institutions, or simply criticize their policies or laws. However, working in specific solutions for specific problems really impact positively the people’s life. I believe that MIT projects will help a lot of people, because they first understand the issues and second build a solution available for them in costs and materials required.

More U.S. kids having obesity surgery

I read the article about the obesity surgery for children. According to the article, there has been tiny number of that surgery because obese children were not so many and the surgey was too risky. Recently, however, the trend is changing. The level of surgical technique are getting high and obese children are increasing. Some doctors examined children how they respond to various types of weight-loss surgey and find that the death rate became lower and complication is minor. In that way, one girl, who could have not do exercise because of her heart problems, could lose her weight 100 pounds from 250 pounds by installing the band. Although it became easier than before, it's still dangerous especially for young people, there are some opposite doctors saying that it's not the solution of obese problem.

I don't agree with obesity surgery for children. Even doctors say complications are minor, it's not minor for young people. For only losing weight, it might be a good way. However, the obese problem will be not solved by surgery. Because it comes from many social problems, for example life style, exercise, food, and so on. We should control our own body by ourselves before we get over-weight.

Babies Vs. Chimps: Who's Smarter?

I found an article which is called "Babies Vs. Chimps: Who's Smarter?" on the TIME CNN. This article explains why babies are smarter than chimps. A human has a bigger and more complex brain than a chimp's brain. Some scientist experiment with babies, chimps, and orangs. The test was like how to find a toy or some food and how to open plastic tube. At the first test, everyone found the food or a toy, but at secound test only babies could open the tube. The result of the test tells us human is much smarter than other animals.

I agree with what this article says. The smartest animal is human. That's why human could be owner of the earth. I thought chimp is the most smartest animal besides people, but I found in some article that pig is smarter than chimp. I couldn't believe what they say, because pig looks very idiotic, but the pig is the smartest animal. And I can't beleive we eat such a smart animal.

Helmsley’s dog gets $12 million in will

I found this article on Yahoo! News. The title of this article is: “Helmsley’s dog gets $12 million in will.” This article talks about a hotel queen whose name is Helmsley. She gives her dog a huge estate after she dies. That was 12 million dollars. She also left millions for her brother, because he needs to help her to take care her dog after she dies. Because some reasons she didn’t leave any money to her grandchildren from her late son. She trusts the dog more than human. That’s why she gives the money to her dog not her relative.

It is really interesting. 12 million dollars is a lot of money. She choose gives to her dog. I have similar experience. My aunt doesn’t have any child, but she has a dog. She treats this dog as her daughter. And she told me she will gives her estate to her dog. Because she thinks this dog is her daughter. I think that was human nature. When you don’t have any relatives; you will put your attention on your pet. Especially dog, because as we know, dog is humans best friends. I am not surprised. I like dogs. And if it’s your money, you can choose any one you want to give. It’s your choose, nothing strange.

BECKHAM

This article"Beckham starts first game, scores first goal for Galaxy" talks about the England superstar David Beckham; this article shows to us about what Beckham did in his first game with Galaxy team, when he played his first game after 27th minute he scored his first goal on a free kick when Los Angeles beat D.C. United 2-0 in the super Liga semifinals. Beckham felt that he has the ability to score goal and that not only what he did but also that he assisted on the Galaxy's second goal when he sent a beautiful long pass to a streaking Landon Donovan, who scored on a breakaway in the 47th minute for a 2-0 led. Beckham makes a big difference in Galaxy team as Donovan said.

In my opinion, David Beckham is the best midfield player not only in England but in the world; he played on the best two teams in the world. First he played where he become famous in Manchester United in England, and then he played in Real Madrid in Spain and now in Los Angeles'Galaxy team. Beckham will help to improve the liga in USA and he will help the players in the Galaxy team because he has more experience and he played many times in the world cup. The most special thing Beckham has is that he can score goal from one second by free kick; he is the best player in the world and he is very professional about that. Beckham scored a goal in his first game and he assisted on the Galaxy's second goal which means he deserved the $250,000,000 that transferred Beckham from Real Madrid to Galaxy; Beckham is not just the number one in Galaxy team but also in the England national team, and everyone likes him.

Attention problems linked to early TV viewing

In this article, the author mentioned that the children watching television more than 2 hours a day will be influenced later during teenage. The children who watch television might grow into less patience and not good at schooling. They might imitate the actors’ behaviors to affect their developing brain. Also, they might spend too much time on watching television instead of doing exercise, reading, and playing. Plus, some studies were proof that the children watching TV for a long time a day may be overweight. The food of the commercials was also not good at the children.

I think the habit of TV watching not only influences children, but also adults. People spend a lot time to watch TV everyday. Almost every family has at least one television in the modern. They are used to turn on the TV when they came back home. Actually, some people can’t live without TV. The adults watching TV everyday lead their children to do the same thing together. The children should sleep, read, play and exercise more instead of watching TV. It’s very difficult to change a lot of people’s concept to do that. I think if we want to limit the time of children watching. The adults need to control themselves first.

Wal-Mart's Union problem

In this article, the writer maintains about Wal-Mart’s reaction to unionization. Many workers need to make some union there, but they deny accepting the new system. Because that spends a lot of money to keep, and workers can be stronger and the payment for them also can be up by a strike. Wal-Mart wants efficient management, so they don’t want to do that. However, the movement for workers has become stronger, so they act something about this soon. And the writher says this huge company’s system of employment has great influent for others.

In my opinion, Wal-Mart should be more polite for workers. Surely, this supermarket sells some products by really reasonable price, and we can understand the efficient system makes those can be. But too much efficiency leads to clashing of management. To avoid bad problems about employment, Wal-Mart should be good for their workers.

An interview with John R.Lott,Jr.

According to the ariticle, Mr John bleive that when we support more guns for the people, we will reduce crimes. In fact, he explain that by two reasons. First, the guilty can not specify the people who can defend themself. Second, the people have a good position to defnd themself.

In my opinion, i disagree with Mr John because i think the government should defend the people from the guilties not the people should defend themself from the guilties. Also, when every one has a gun, it creats uncmpfortable feeling for the people and they will feel that they are in a dingours poisition in every second. So if the government want to reduce crimes, it should reduse or forbid selling guns.

15 ways stores trick you into spending

In this article, the author discusses about how stores trick consumers to buy more things that they may not want to buy. For example, "Items that aren't on sale are sometimes placed as though they are on sale, without using the word 'sale'" is a good trick because people always want to buy something cheap and if they are not careful when they are buying something, they probably think the thing that they are going to buy is cheap. However, the author also mentions 10 ways to fight those tricks.

In my life, I always buy something that I want but I don't need, and I've never thought about why. After I read this article, I found out about some tricks that I didn't know. Also, I realized that some stores use those tricks as much as possible. In this article, it also provides us some advice to fight back and those are very useful. But even though I have a shopping list, I always buy some extra things that are not on my list, because I have to fight with my desire and impulses.

New York Philharmonic receives invitation to perform in North Korea

According to Westphal(August 14, 2007) in his article on Playbill Arts, the New York Philharmonic has been invited by the government of North Korea to give a concert in the capital city, Pyongyang. Although the New York Philharmonic has played all over the world, the orchestra has never given a concert in North Korea. The orchestra is considering positively about this invitation like any other suggestions. For performing in North Korea, the orchestra is required to consult with U.S. federal government. However it depends on the orchestra whether or not they consent to give a concert.

In recent years, North Korea had an antagonistic relationship with the USA. Gradually, North Korea needs a relation improvement with US to escape isolation from international society. Therefore it seems to be that North Korea chooses music as a means of solution. Is well known, North Korean leader Kim Jong Il is interested in art (He even studied movie making). For a long time, music has been used to be a means of reconciliation and peace by politics (Of course, there are also opposite sides). I expect that this invitation will enable both countries to improve the relationship and will bring peace to East Asia.

Hundreds of Saudi camels die from mystery ailment

I found this article in Reuters website. The article declares that almost 232 camels have died in Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Agriculture reasons that the camels were died by animal feeds. In addition, the article mentions that people trade the Camels for thousands of dollars for each in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the article says that the camels are used for racing and their meat is prized in Saudi Arabia. Finally, the article claims that the Authorities searched for the sign of the H5N1 strain of bird flu but they did not find any disease.

I am interested in this article because my brother has camels in his farm. Moreover, in Saudi Arabia people give the camels high respect because in the past, the camels were useful to transport from place to place. In addition, I think that the Ministry of Agriculture did the best to solve the problem. The Ministry of Agriculture discovers immediately the problem. Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture helps people who lose their camels in this tragedy. Finally, I feel the sympathy for people who lose their camels.

Childhood TV viewing can cause teenage problems

I found this article at YAHOO!NEWS last week. This article says watching TV in childhood can cause some problems in adolessence. Watching television more than two hours a day in childhood can cause attention problems later in adolessence. Children who watch a lot of TV may become less tolerant of slower-pacesd and more mundane tasks. Watching TV may take the place of other activities that promote concentration, such as reading, games, sports and play. Moreover, watching TV promots children to be obesity and diabetes, because they don't move while they are watching TV, and commercial message promote fat, sugar, sodium food.

I think children should play outside instead of watching TV. Watching TV is not healthy. It causes lak of exercise, and moreover, it's not good for eyes. Too much YV watching make eyes bad, and some TV program are nor good for education. Children can be influenced badly by TV. Watching TV is sometimes fun, but it has many problem. So we have to consider TV problems.

  • is about the fact that more people are smoking cigarettes. Also, it gives us the history of startin of smoking; that people started smoking cigarettes after World War I. When the soldiers smoke cigars. After that, the tobacco companies make a lot of kinds of cigarettes. Moreover, smoking causes a lot of diseases such as Cancer ,and it leads to death. Most people can quit smoking.

I am interested in this article, because I am asmoker and I hope to quit smoking forever. Actually, smoking causes a lot of diseases. However, we cannot stop smoking and I tried much of the time to stop it. If I do not smoke, I feel angry. Smoking is bad behavior when we are smoking in front of children. I wish to quit smoking.

Doctors offering no interest loans to patients

The U.S. medical treatments are too expensive for some people. Ithey should be covered by their medical insurance, but sometimes they are not. Therefore, doctors and dentists’ offices are working with consumer credit banks that offer their patients a no interest loan, in exchange of a 10% fee of the ordinary treatment cost. Hence, consumer credit is making it easier for Americans to access to a $3.500 laser eye surgery or a $6.000 tooth implant. However, not everybody has access to that kind of credit. It is necessary to be credit-worthy, to have health insurance and doctors recommend to be sure that you can pay it. Furthermore, when someone does not pay the loan on schedule, he or she will be charged with a default penalty interest rate (very high).

I chose this New York Times article because it is interesting to see how the health system works in the U.S. and how is the health industry being promoted from consumer credits. First, I found that around 47 million people are uninsured, which means that they do not have health coverage. Second, the health insurance normally does not include vision or dental coverage. And third, some consumer credit banks are promoting not only the necessary health treatments but also the beauty interventions. I think it is good to have credit access to all kind of medical and dental treatments, but the health insurance should cover some of them that are necessary for the patient. In addition, people without health insurance must have access to credit because it is the only chance they have to have health care.

    Children’s Smoking

This article is about the movie with the scene where an actor smokes can lead to encourage young people to do same thing. In America, there are many movies like that, and this article says the children who watch more movies with cigarette are more likely to smoke than the children who watch less. So the writer argues that they should maintain not only about the good side of smoking but also the bad side of it.

In my opinion, to stop the young people’s smoking, an alternative way is needed to describe themselves, like a fashion, music and a ride. Because they want to do something cool, they challenge to smoke. If they have another thing that satisfy with their confidence, they will not use cigarettes anymore. And the bad image of smoking is also important. For young parson, notifying by visualizing and imaging is better than just teaching.

Don't let your boss catch you reading this

I found this article on the msnbc website. Its title is: " Don't let your boss catch you reading this" It's about employees waste their time on the Internet such as reading e-mail and writing messages which were not related to their work. They like to manage their money or buy something online and use Facebook and Myspace for personal activities at work. Also, many movies and TV shows imitate this situation. So, many firms spend millions on Web access to monitor employees' activities on the Internet or block some sites or servers.

It is very interesting article. It shows the real world at work. While some people were reading this article, they might think about something they did at work. Many people did the same things at work. I think employees could do personal something online. If it didn't affect the qualities of the jobs, how come the employees could not use the Internet to do personal activities at work? I don't think people can focus on the jobs all day and don't need a rest. However, people can't chat with friends for a long time or browse to the sex sites at work. The clever bosses know what their employees do at work. Also, the conscientious employees know how to manage their time at work.

Many couple divorce at the end of the summer or after the cristars holiday. the couples want to think what's going on in their relationship. In that time many quarrelling couples think their bad relationship and decide divorce, but they wait the end of their summer vacation for that their children are safely sent to school. Somebody said people don't want wait out those period.

I agree with this article say. In the U.S so many couples divorce especially after vacation and long holiday. I think they want to keep there relationship for their children even they have problems, but when they have break, they might get more problem because their relationship was broken, so they just wait to end the vacation. Parents think that time is better than other time for children, but I'm sure divorce is worst choice for children.
