Short summary: This article talks about the importance of better of the relations between United States and Cuba, and a project of creating a Cuban Caribbean Center at SIU. According to Al Romero, dean of the college of arts and sciences at SIU Edwardsville, this project will give them more prominence both in the academic world as well as enrollment by students.


Issues:

• Taking into account all the financial problems that SIU is facing now, how appropriate is a project like this.
• How does the creation of a Cuban Caribbean Center will help the relations between Cuba and the United States?
• How does this center will really increase the number of enrollments by students? What kind of new students? Students from Cuban or Cuban already in USA.

My Opinion: The project as presented in the article is not sustainable. It does not really present the objective of the Center.
