Debate about the death penalty-lethal injuction

I found this article from MSNBS site.

As you can see this article is about lethal injection, the one method of death penalty. Kentucky death row inmate Ralph Baze, who was convicted of killing a Powell County sheriff and deputy say the three drugs used by Kentucky for execution are far too complex, and that they violate his constitutional right against cruel and unusual punishment. (the Bill of Right : Amendments to the Constitution 8th)
Baze bring an suit about this to the U.S. Supreme Court.
and the Supreme Court review this problem now.

The execution of the death penalty exist many methods. for example, electrocution, hanging, firing squad, gas chamber, decapitation ect.
the lethal injection is adopted recently, as alternative of other methods.

I think If the Supreme Court decide that Lethal Injection is violated The Right of Freedom From the cruel and unusual punishment, It means abolition of the death penalty without adopting less painful methods than lethal injection.
but In my experience, the death penalty is necessary to preventing crimes, social security etc.
