Darius's Article Report # 2

Article report

Author: Nick Johnson

Titel of article: Council raises liquor licence cap

Publication: Daily Egyptian

Date of article: January 20, 2010

Short summary: This article talks about a vote made by the council of Carbondale city to allow a "C" class liquor licence to Short Enterprise Inc. It also debates whether or not the city should lessen the legislation on liquor to promote business.

Issues:

How does the control on liquor licence really help in reducing deliquency or violence in Carbondale?
How does this control favour monopolies?
Does Carbondale want to improve its economy on liquor business? What would be the cost for the society?

My Opinion: This article raised an important question: The way that legislations favour monopolies and the kind of development the city really wants.
