Title of article:

Study Suggests Higher Cancer Risk for 9/11 Firefighters.

Publication:

The New York Times

Date of article:

September 1, 2011

Short summary

The article focuses on a medical issue that relates to the September 11th attack back on 2001. A study shows that 19 present of firefighters who engage in the World Trade center rescues are in risk of developing cancer. The article discusses whether the firefighters should have more coverage by medical insurance or not. Also, a study showed that any firefighters and others who were exposed and have not yet developed cancer should be advised of lifestyle changes that can cut cancer risk by quitting smoking, limiting alcohol use, getting regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight.

Issue that I can find

1- Do you think there is a link between exposure to the trade center site and particular cancers?

2- Is there a review of the Compensation of health, to add cancer to the list of diseases covered by health insurance for firefighters?

3- What is the psychological and physical impact on New York firefighters, and are there other studies that have dealt with this aspect?

My opinion

In my opinion this case shows numbers and statistics of a group of firefighters who helped others to survive. The least thing that they deserve is health care that covers them. Additionally, the firefighters are exposed to toxic substances emitted by fires that may lead to serious diseases. On the other hand, firefighters have the right to receive health care from government. Also we have to support them and offer them rewards for heroic actions they carry out in order to serve the people.
