Duck! Here comes Super Teacher!

I found this article at YAHOO! NEWS this week. This article is about one Japanese teacher. He is coaching the volleyball team. The 52 years old high school teacher was named "super teacher" by the local board of education in spite of having been reprimanded several times for using corporal punishment. He has thrown a chair at his student, however, he has been awarded the title because his strict teaching methods improved his student's performance. Japan's school system sometimes has been a hot topic of debate. Some politicians demanded stricter discipline, but others say children are already under too much pressure.

In my opinion, this teacher is not worth being award even if he made the volleyball team win. In japan, corporal punishment is strictly prohibited. If a teacher hit a student only once, he or she may have disciplinary dismissal. I think it too strict and Japanese are too sensitive to corporal punishment. However, throwing a chair is beyond discipline.
