Title of article: "Barefoot Bandit" gets 6.5 years for federal charges.
Author: Laura L. Myers
Publication: Reuters
Date of article: 1/27, 2012
Short summary:
The 20-year old serial thief Harris Moore was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for a federal charge. He dropped out of high school and he learned how to drive an aircraft by himself. He feels guilty and regret about what he had done. However, after he finishes his incarceration, he might try to be a pilot even though people think he is unforgivable.
Issues:
What kind of growing background would make a person become a criminal?
How could he drive an aircraft by himself without being taught?
Should we augment our security systems to avoid any crime happening?
Opinion:
The background that we are living in can affect our personalities. Sometimes, I read about some criminals who blame their parents, because they gave them a pitiful childhood. I grew up in a single parent family. The most important thing is the parents should teach their kids the right and positive attitude. It might reduce the number of tragedies that happen in the future.
