Rereleasing an old movie

I found this article, Despite controversy, Disney could unlock 'Song of the South', online at the Ashvelle Citizen-Times, although it is written by Travis Reed of the Associated Press. It's about an old movie that was made in 1946, 'Song of the South', kind of like 'Gone with the Wind', which was made around then, and was very famous. This movie had the same actress as Gone with the Wind, Hattie McDaniel. For some people who love old movies, it would be great if they released it, because it would be easier to see and would teach us about that era of history. But the problem is that that time of history is embarrassing because of slavery. Some people would be angry at the way they show African-Americans, which was common in old movies back then. In other words, the movie was not bad by 1946 standards, but we would be uncomfortable if we saw it today. The author tells about the controversy over releasing it and says that Disney is not sure about releasing it.

I love old movies, especially black-and-white ones from that era. If I have a television with a lot of channels, I always watch the old black-and-white movies. Actually all of them are kind of embarrassing since times change and we see things differently now than we did before. But, that's no reason not to watch an old movie. Old movies are still great. I don't know much about this one; I've never seen it. And I know that a big company like Disney has to be very sensitive about the movies they show and release in modern times. But I think we can learn a lot from this movie, so they should release it. I think filmmakers should have more freedom, not less, and should be able to have something in public that may not make everyone comfortable.
