saluki way

survey results
This survey is about how Carbondale community likes Saluki way. During the survey, some people were wondering what is saluki way. A little explanation is necessary before the results. In September the 14th 2005 Daily Egyptian it is about “a plan to re-center the campus around new academic buildings, a new football stadium and a revamped indoor-sports arena.” The chancellor Wendler launched this plan. He said that “The changes will give SIUC a fresh, updated "front door," that will welcome the campus community and visitors to a central location the University can be proud of and will replace athletic facilities, some of which are crumbling and outdated.” (Chancellor Wendler unveils "Saluki Way", Retrieved February 28, 2008 from http://spotlight.siu.edu/09142005/SalukiWay.html). Since then, fund has been rose for saluki way and recently a half percent tax increase has been decided to provide more funds.
The survey has concerned 25 people formed with 15 male persons and 10 female persons. It was amazing to see that women like more football than men: 60% of the formers versus 46.67% of the later. It appears that more than half percent of the questioned persons like saluki football and go to Saluki game at least 10 times a year. A quarter of the survey participants really go to saluki game four times a month. However 60% of persons think that building saluki way is not necessary and more than half percent clearly mean that they prefer the funds to be used to advertise good educational system and focus on benefits of education instead of using them on football stadium building. Most of them (64%) disagree with the tax increase and almost all of the participants (88%) think that tax increase is too much. In conclusion People think that they need sports in the campus but not insomuch to spend money on it.
I did this survey in the Students Center at SIUC. I can say that people are very cooperative in participating to a survey. For some of them it was an occasion to tell their opinion about saluki way, because it has been a popular issue these days. People opinion is logical. It is rational to focus on what the school purpose is, actually always to enhance the education given. What I retain is how the project can keep going when apparently lots of people disagree. As a foreign, I feel that I need to learn more about how decisions are taken in this community and how people participate.

Hi-tech bird tracker breakthrough

In BBC News' article (2008), ""Hi-tech bird tracker breakthrough", the article explains the factor what the hi-tech tracker is, why hi-tech bird tracker uses. First, the article discusses that new kinds of hi-tech tracker give researchers a better information about the behavior of animals. Next, the article says that many kinds of researchers tried to install high-tech tracker unique animal in burrows on their land and today they can monitor special animals' lives at their research institute. Finally, the article claims that researchers can inprove new research materials about endangered species behaviors and enviornmental problems by hi-tech tracker, they also try to extend the range of investigation by hi-tech tracker.

In my opinion, technological development has been quite remarkable in recent years. I believe that new kinds of technology can protect a lot of endangered species, even they can help human beings. moreover, high-tech tracker can make solutions about environmental problems and problems of the biological world.

Educated killer

The article “Faculty Return to Northern Illinois University for Training to Help Students Cope With Campus Shooting” talks about the campus shooting happened in Northern Illinois University. According to a witness, she reminded that it is on Thursday in the lecture hall. Minutes before the end of the class, a stranger walked onto the stage. He pointed the shotgun at the student sitting in front of him in the large lecture hall and pulled the trigger. Then he aimed to himself …On this urgency, he killed 5 persons one of whom is the witness`s boyfriend and many people got wounded. The tragedy happened so sudden and unpredictable that most of the students sitting there thought that the gunman was there to make an announcement.
I am interesting in the article because the campus shooting is very common in the U.S. and it seems to be a “trend”. Then the question is that how can this happened? And nobody felt something before the tragedy happened. Neither his teacher, nor his classmates. Next, if we find so trails before it happened what should we do? To answer the first question I think one reason is that the university is careless with the students psychological problems and another reason is that the U.S. government are remiss in their duties that they are responsible to supervise the public of buying guns. Thus campus shooting happened many times around the American schools, colleges and universities.

India Facing Smoking Death Crisis

According to "India Facing Smoking Death Crisis" article says that in 2010s one million people will die from tobacco smoking in India. First, the New England Journal of Medicine survey that 900,000 deaths a year in india because of smoking tobacco. In future 20% of male and 5% of female between the age of 30 and 39 could deaths. Second,if male smoke bidi he will loose his 6 years of life and with the cigarettes 10 years of life. On the other hand female will loose 8 years of her life because of smoking bidi. Third, most of deaths in India just because of smoking tobacco. The government of India is Trying to tack some steps to control tobacco use but may be they can not come up with the solution.

My opponents say that smoking is very bad for people's health. People can get cancer becuase of smoking tobacco. We do not have any medicines for the disease such as cancer and aids. People should understand about this and they should stop the smoking tobacco.

The next green revolution

Many Europeans have not tried genetically modified (GM) food yet, even though scientists assure them that GM food is safe. However, Adopting GM foods seem to be an unavoidable trend that European Commission might import them in the future. Therefore, Monsanto, which is a biotechnology firm, is the winner that it made a profit of $993m a year, and profits will be doubled by 2012. Proponents claims that GM food is the best to feed increasing food demands, because it provides higher yields and requires less water, energy and fertilizer. Although this gene technology owns intellectual-property rights, it suffers from piracy as software industry, especially in developing countries (such as Argentina and China). Finally, the next generation of gene modification will benefit consumers most. GM food will be more palatable, healthier and no trans-fat during cooking.

The next green revolution

In my opinion, I prefer original food than GM food. First, there are still defeats that GM food damage human life. For example, one company produced a GM soybean which could trigger allergies in nut-sensitive consumers. Moreover, GM food will impair ecosystems which scientists have never forecasted. In one case, pollen of GM corn is blown onto the plants monarch butterflies consume, and its toxin killed their caterpillars and many other species. As a result, being “nature” is the best way that every organism exists in the world.

USDA recalls 143 million pounds of beef

The title of my article is USDA recalls 143 million pounds of beef

This article is about an undercover video which shows animal-abuse. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recalled 143 million pound of beef. The cattle were very weak but the employees abused of them. The company responsible of these beef is West-land/Hallmark Meat Co. Some officials say that obviously much of these beef has been eaten. A considerable amount of these beef were sent for school children's lunches. There are not consequences yet but the Federal regulations believe this cattle may have a higher risk of contamination.

This article is very interesting because it is related with food that we eat day by day. The federal regulation need to be more careful when they check the quality of food. This company should be punish by the government. They should not have sold these beef because they may have some diseases. The school children's lunches should be against with this company. Also they should be more careful about what kind of meat do they buy for the children. We do not know the consequences yet but we will see these in the future. It is possible that the company sold these beef because of economic problems but they did not care about the consequences of it.

"Homosexual" issue

This article is from BBC News.

According to Barford (2008) in BBC News, “Iran’s Diagnosed Transsexuals” although homosexual are not permitted in Iran; people can do surgery to change their sex in order to have a new live. First of all, this article gives the information about the experience or feeling of some people who do sex change operation. In fact, people do not allow having homosexual relationships, but their law has another way to solve the problems. If the doctor diagnoses people who are transsexual, they can have the choice to do surgery changing the gender. However, it has some problems when people do sex operation such as feeling shy, worrying about the society, and being afraid of family acceptance. One of the doctors, Mir-Jalali, helps people to deal with the problems that people encounter and to avoid people feeling uncomfortable. Finally, the article gives two different examples about doing the surgery. Both of them change their life a lot, but one is bad way, and the other is good way. People should think about the result.

In my opinion, nowadays there are more and more people who have homosexual relationships. It is very common in the society. Before I did not think this situation with that, but until now I find that I have some friends who are homosexuality. I can get along with them and have a good relationship with each other. Although some countries can accept the homosexuality, most of people think it is strange. Besides, some people want to stay with their lovers so they do surgery to change sex. They also cause some problems in the society like mental influence, community of impression, and family of thinking. A lot of things have an effect the controversial issue. In short, changing sex has positive and negative ways. People have to compare the result and find the good way to deal with the homosexuality. Moreover the society should give more spaces for homosexuality.

Eurrope Acts to Require of Genetically Altered Food

The title of my article is Eurrope Acts to Require of Genetically Altered Food

Genetically Modified food has been found to be safe in many scientific studies, but there is no evidence proving the safe. To keep health and consumer protection, the European Parliament approved legislations to require labels for food and feed made with genetically altered ingredients. For example, to show the rebel which like "This product contains a genetically modified organism." This should be given consumers greater confidence to know foods. On the other hand, some people say that it would be burdensome for food production, and could prejudice consumers against genetically modified good a barrier to free trade. Europeans passionately oppose “Frankenfood”, genetically modified foods, which are common in the America, and they fear long-term health and environmental risks.

As this article says, there is no clear evidence proving genetically modified food is safe and affects people badly or not yet, but people still are not sure about this. To label all food containing more than 0.9 percent of a genetically modified is good know for consumers in public, because they have right to know till genetically modified food will be sure to be safe to us. Let's carry out a tag or label to identify foods as genetically modified even though labeling the genetically modified food would be expensive to be a guarantee on a piece of paper.

When credit cards put you in jeopardy

This article is from CNN.com . The author talks about Americans have $2.2 trillion debt on their credit cards last year. Spending more money than they afford to has become a bad habit for Americans. Percentage of people who don’t pay money on time is highest in three years. You need to find if your credit card spending is out of control. If you have debt on your credit cards, try to change your debt from high-interest credit cards to low-interest credit card. Paying more than minimum payments every month is good way to decrease your debt as soon as possible. You also can negotiate for a lower rate with credit card bank if you have good credit. Finally, the expert also says that you should not use more than 10 percent of your credit limit when you make purchases.
A credit card is a very convenient tool to purchase without bringing money. You don’t need to pay money immediately when you buy something. You can pay the total payment after 30 days later. A lot of people go shopping and spend a lot of money because they don’t pay money immediately. They always spend too much even though they can’t afford to their payment. There is a good way to stop this situation. Don’t use credit card and just use money to purchase. Using debit card is also a good way to control your purchase.

Chinese product scares prompt US fears

The title of my article is Chinese product scares prompt US fears. Nowadays, many Chinese productions are imported to USA because China develops the global export market. However, there is gap between the speed of a expansion into the market and the growth of a countrywide regulatory infrastructure. So some of Chinese productions such as toothpaste, pet food, fish and seafood are not safe. Many people scare about these product specially when people do not know where the production comes from. CPSC thinks education for workers in USA is also important to escape these problems.

In my opinion, I think Chinese productions should be checked again or more clearly. Now, a lot of Chinese productions are imported to several countries and scare many people. China can surely grow up the economy and industry, but there is still a gap between cities and villages. In other words, China does not have enough power to manage, yet. So, China abandons many problems because of developing. I think that the some Chinese productions which have problems affect many other Chinese productions which are safe. Overall, people are distrustful of all Chinese food and do not come to buy any products which is from China even though the productions are checked many times. So any products have left unsold. The problems cause China the problem of reducing exports. So, many countries should help China giving safe productions. The productions should be always safe for consumers, I believe.

Filling Holes in the Food Supply

Newstalk Group Project

Time Magazine discussed the issue about food safety in the U.S. in “Filling Holes in the Food Supply”. This report revealed the lack of sufficient resources and authority to ensure food safety in the Food and Drug Administration. In the U.S., imports are allowed to come in at over 300 ports of entry. It is impossible to have staff from the FDA at each facility to test and inspect food. Furthermore, importers might take advantage of this. They know where the FDA does not have an inspector or a lab so it will be easy to transport imports without obstruction. Some people worry about this would leave the U.S. open to sabotage. The public panic arose from contaminated foods and the fear of infectious diseases such as the E. coli outbreak several years ago were significant examples. The solutions to this issue require new technology that can inspect foods quickly and new laws for the companies to pay a fee in order to import foods into the U.S.

Food safety problems include not only domestic food production but also imported foods. For food production lines inside the country, the authority has more ability to control them. Unfortunately, more and more foods are imported every year due to the low production cost in other countries. It is shocking that the FDA inspected less than 1 percent of total imports. According to this report, even if the government passed the law for companies to pay a fee in order to cover the cost of food inspection, the percentage of inspected food will hopefully increase to 3 to 4 percent of total imports. This is just a small improvement. On the other hand, what is a reasonable percentage of food inspection every year? Is it worth to spend more money just to inspect more imports every year? Maybe the government can focus on screening imports from certain countries or restrict the company which had an unqualified record from importing foods.

'Zero waste' target for Scotland

The title of my article is 'Zero waste' target for Scotland

Scottish government announced they would promote recycling activity. They will spend additional money of £7,5m for recycling project. The aim of the project is to increase recycled and composted things to 60% by 2020 and they want to increasetha percentage to 70% by 2025. And another sim is to reduce the waste of energy when they generate energy by 2025. Moreover, what everyone can do for recycling is to reject junk mail, re-using carrier bag, and pretend them from wasting food. people need to recycle and also need to produce item for longer life. Recycling will change the future of Scottland and our planet.

Recycling is a important idea to protect our planet. Each person may not waste paper, can, plastic bottle, and energy so much but our planet is getting dirty because many people waste like these resources. Some people are not interested in recycling and don't care about that. Everyone can do something for recycling and some countries are setting out recycling project. I think sending garbage to landfill means just to gather garbage one place. If everyone promote recycling, people will save resources and keep cleaning our planet.

For Fukui city of Obama, choice of U.S. candidate is a no-brainer

The title of my article is For Fukui city of Obama, choice of U.S. candidate is a no-brainer

The article states Obama, who is one of the presidential candidates, will make Obama, a Japanese local town, famous. It stated from the joke that Obama is from Obama, Fukui prefecture, Japan. Now, Obama city already created some souvenirs related Obama. However, people who are residents in Obama do not know his political thought so much. They want to take advantage of this chance to make Obama city popular all over the world.

I think this is good circumstance that Obama, a Japanese small town, is famous for for the world. However, there is no connection related a candidate.I cannot understand why they need more attraction. This is why I go to there every year but last year, and then I and my friends have good time because of the beautiful coast and delicious seafood. I also believe they do not need to do like that because if they become famous, they will have some problems. For example, Tourists will throw their garbages away, then it will lose attractions as a tourist resource. I do not want the city to do like that because i want to see and go to the beautiful coast this year.

Tourist tells of sarfari gun raid

This is an article I read http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/sussex/7254804.stm

This article I read talk about some tourist they got attack when they was in camp.
When they were in camp some armed bandits cam and attack them. Bandits took their cash, passports, mobile phones and camera equipment. After that the Namibia begin to investigate it because they have good safety and security for their tourist. One of tourist board said, “The safety and security of our clients are of paramount importance to us”. And a spokesman for the country’s tourist board said, “the safety and security of visitor to Namibia is an absolute priority and this is an isolated and rare incident”.Therefore, they are very sure the safety and security of the tourism, but the attack still happened, so they begin to investigate the rare incident.

After read this article I feel the tourist and the Namibia tourism company so unlucky. The tourism company they did their job for the security. Every tourism want to get good reputation, so I believe they did their best job for security. I think the attack still happened it not Tourism Company’s fault. That would be a problem on bandits. I think that is bandit maybe they are smart or they use some trick to get into there and attack tourist, so the tourist are unlucky. Also, Namibia they are good because they investigate this incident. Therefore, this is just accident nobody wrong just have more care for the tourist next time.

CDC : Flu vaccine matches 40 percent of season's viruses

The title of my article is CDC :Flu vaccine matches 40 percent of season's viruses

Accordin to the article, now is the flu season and flu shot suits only 40% of the most epreading flu. in this week, 10 children died by flu in U.S but the fact doesn't mean this year's flu is dangerous because the peak of the flu season usually come in early February. the problem is that vaccine doesn't work enough. every year, experts guess the type of flu which will be spreaded and thier guess didn't success this year. H3N2 and H1N1 viruses are the majority and H1N1 type are resistant. The U.S Food Administration will decide how they deal with the issue. We have to be caution about it.

The flu is a big problem every year. I have never caught a flu but many people catch it and some of them die. espacially, young children and elder people tend to last a symptom and get worse. It may happens that vaccine doesn't match the type of viruses which is overspread in any other countries. It's important to have a shot but I think we have some way to protect our health. Washing the hands and gargling are good way. And, I hope the day that someone invent the perfectvaccine will come.

Debate about the Jury System (especially, Jury Selection).

I found this article from MSNBS site.
The Jury Selection.

As you can see this article is about Manslaughter Trial For Man Accused Of Providing Gun To Boy and the process of jury selection.
Derrick Glover furnished a handgun to Tony Youmans (middle-school student, only 12-year-old boy)
and Tony Youmans shot himself that handgun in the head. and suicide himself.
Glover is accused for manslaughter, furnishing a firearm to minor etc.
and the criminal procedure is going to start. In the pre-trial, the process of jury selection is begun.

In my opinion, he assisted young man's suicide, and he is guilty.
South Korea is adopting Jury system(petit jury) recently. and I am very interested in the U.S. jury system.
But In the United States, Jury System is not always useful and just. For Example, O.J. Simpson Case, Rodney king case, etc.
I think the most important thing, that the Jury System is going Well, is reasonable jury selection process.

US orders massive recall of beef

The title of my article is US orders massive recall of beef. In this article, The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has ordered the recall of 143m lb of beef. The number of recalled meat was the largest in the US's history. However, major food chanis supplied some recalled beef, and officials said most people have already eaten the recalled beef. The level of recall was Class 2 which meaned it might harm consumer's health. According to an Agricltual Secretary, in fact, the recalled beef does not have a possibility of BSE, but officials said the beef should be removed from the food supply or checked carefully for consumer's health.

Nowadays, many countries import American meat. So, meat firms in America take several measures to supply the demand. For example, they use genetically madified organisms, and feed a lot to increase the number or gain weight. Because of these process, many cows are affected. The cost of meat which are made by these process is low, while the cost of meat which are made by natural is high. So, the low cost lead many people or firms to the inorganic meat. I think these problems are from mass production by growing population. Unless population go down, these problems could not solve. So if we care about our health, we should buy high cost meat. We have to care by our selves. And firms should inspect more carefully to harm our health.

Cyberthieves go phishing to rob banks

CNN reports Cyberthieves go phishing to rob banks about the more and more common cyber crime in modern world. Online accounts have become one of the most valuable targets for phishers. They either send fake e-mails from banks to ask for users’ account login confirmation or create a bogus log in webpage to collect personal information like password or security code. The latter is called server setting hijack. Most users are unaware of this danger since regular browsers do not detect bogus log in pages automatically. After the phishers take the user information, they can empty the bank accounts and leave little or no trail for the police or other authorities to investigate. So far, there is no guarantee for 100% security. At least it might be worth to compare our online banking information with the paper record.

Online accounts of banks, wireless services and cable companies make our life easier in some ways. We don’t have to worry about writing a check to catch up deadline of monthly payment or late fee. We just click few bottoms on the webpage and it’s done. However, having access to online bank account from any computers means someone else might find sneaky ways to steal or hijack this information. Banks or cable companies will always assure their customers about the account security. Unfortunately, this is an endless cycle just like computer viruses and antivirus soft wares. Every time new protection has been launched, there will be another new virus. Identity thieves are always lurking around on the internet. Providing credit cards information might be unavoidable, but at least we can avoid providing bank account information online.

Dad kills daughter over text message

This is an article that i read
http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local&id=5963040

The article that i read talk about a father who killed his daughter. Miguel Matias living in the Bronx called the police for having killed his daughter. He killed her because she was texting a boy a message and because of the bad behavior of the girl. The father was having some mental problems. The father did not appreciate his daughter having a relationship with boys.

I think that the father is mentally ill as the police said. Since he was already having this problem, they should have kept him in the psychatric hospital to pass the remainder of his life so that the girl would be alive today. It is a bad thing that the father did and people who have this kind of problem should stay in hospital for intensive treatment.

Valentine's Day bring out hard-liners, confectionary critters

I found this article from CNN. As you read this article, it is about various Valentine's Day's celebration in all of the world. The day of Valentine is begin as essential Christian holiday but nowadays, it is celebrated the world over.
In Japan's case, February 14 is a day when women buy gifts for their men. And they want to give some special chocolate for their men like bugs shape. In Korea, there are lots of chocolate from china because it is cheaper than other maker. Saudi Arabia has banned any celebration about Valentine's days because of religious reason. There is interesting research about Valentine's days in America. About eight million Americans have sent themselves a gift on Valentine's Day.
Many people who want to protect tradition value from "westernization" argue that Valentine's day is just worked for confectioner and destroy traditional custom.

When I read this article, I really interested in this issue because I have a romantic memory about Valentine's day. Not only me but also someone else who have spent Valentine's day with his(her) lover have some special memory about that. Even if I have good memory about Valentine's day, I worried about it because Valentine's day is too commercialism. Valentine's day is for lover but they worried about money for present. And some people are concerned about destroy of tradition value. So I would like to talk about whether Valentine's day is good or not.

The History of Union

This is an article that i read
http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/01/30/extra.state.of.the.union/index.html

The article that i read is about The History of Union which is a history given about what the president should do each year of his term. Its means at each term of year the president has to deliver an annual message about what his administration has done in the year and what they plan to do the next coming year. This speech has been given since George Washington and the way that it goes is like before it was given by the form of written message sent to the congress and today it is stated in person at the Congress and directly live so that people can be aware of it. What makes it different from other speech is a statement and fact about what goes on his administration that year and what he plans the next coming year.

I think that the History of Union is a good thing that the president does, because it gives what the president has done so far and what is remaining for his administration to do and Congress can discuss more deeply about the problems that the country is facing.

Move to Stop Indian Child Marriages

Every day I read the news from BBC. I look for some strange habitations. One day I found a strange and good article whose title is "move to stop Indian child marriages". According to Singh (2002) in his article, “Move to stop Indian child marriages” the Indian government try to prevent child from marriage, especially on the Hindu auspicious day. In this day many children are married, whereas many non-government organizations say that is wrong and they try to stop this marriage. In rural areas, they do not look to the law and ignore it. The law determine the age of marriage, 18 for girls and 21 for boys at least. There are many reasons for child marriage as a UNICEF report: poverty, tradition, and protect children from unwanted sexual advances. Critics say if there is sustainable, the problem will solve. Some organization tries to get a law to determine the age of marriage.

In my opinion, marriage is very important for all, boys and girls, if who will marry choose the best time to do that. The life is different now; it is not like ancestor’s life. There are many responsibilities refer to the groom and the bride. They need money, house and furniture, and others. Therefore, I agree with the organizations which required from their governments to take a good law to determine the age of marriage.

Why sadness can blow your budget

Why some people will alleviate their depression in terms of shopping? This phenomenon is called “Misery is not miserly”. There is a research which involved in thirty-three young adults, real commodities and money. Subjects were divided into two groups and one group watched a video about sad situation (the death of a boy’s mentor), the other watched neutral videos (sports or nature). It was found that “sad group” pay nearly four tomes as much than “neutral group”, and “sad group” typically insisted emotional video did not affect them to spend more. However, the researchers drew a conclusion that sadness can stimulate people’s emotions which resulted in extravagant propensity. Also, sad emotion leaded people to pay more attention to themselves because they felt they were worthless. Finally, this feeling promoted them to spend more in order to feel better about themselves.

Why sadness can blow your budget

Personally, I agree with the result of research. When people feel distressed, they will regard themselves as nobody. Most of time, they will treat themselves better than normal days. I think “misery is not miserly” indicates not only a shopping spree but also attitude of consumers. For example, I am a person who is prone to spend more in order to achieve more happiness. I will buy “Ben & Jerry” or “Haggen-dazs” when I felt sad or I did something wrong. It is better that I just buy ice cream, and there are some people buying lots of lavish bags, shoes or clothes that they will not wear them again. In conclusion, do not go shopping when you are upset, or even more, sealing your credit cards when you feel sad.

Fixing the Broken Presidential Nomination Process

Fixing the Broken Presidential Nomination Process
By John, D.
The system of election has become more complicateand more expensive. First problem is that election is over before everyone has a chance to vote for primary. Today, election system is a contest of money raising and organization. Second problem is that because of states' greed, they force candidates to be busy with crazy schedule and campaigning money. He points that even some people can be good leader, they cannot try because they do not have power, money for election, and a huge number of people who can support them. Also, he points the problem of election in a day. If people in all states vote a same day, candidate will focus few large states for more votes; therefore small states were ignored. Moreover, he suggests that election system should be a variation of a regional primary. Even though many people recognize the problems of election system, it cannot be changed because of powerful people who benefit, right now. He criticize that both sides of parties do not want to fix problems of election system because they afraid they will lose advantages. He emphasize that if we cannot this small problem of election, we cannot fix the big real problem for America.

I totally agree about this article. I think he points well about the problems of election of America. I want to add something more; however, his thinking and organization are absolutely better than me. I hope that before we start the project about this, we should check and discuss about the election system enough.

Chinese Military Steps up Counter-terrorism Preparations for Olympics

The title of my article is Chinese Military Steps up Counter-terrorism Preparations for Olympics. It talks about the security problem during the Olympics. A officer who refused to be identified, said we will focus on biochemical and nuclear threats, as well as emergency rescue operations. And the PLA will help to solve the security problems in the Water Cube this month to test and practice.
This is a good chance before the Olympics come this summer.

In my opinion, the security problems are the most important thing in the international events such as the World Cup and Olympics, especially after "911". I think we should prevent the terrorists' attacks rather than just care about the escape ways after attacks. In the 911 event we have seen how horrible the terrorism is. Too many inculpable people were dead. I think the most important thing is to enhance the cooperation between the nations' security departments. To share the information about the terrorists is very important in this cooperation and will be the strongest link in solving the issues.

Iron price up 65% for Asian firms

the title of my article is Iron price up 65% for Asian firms and talks about the increase in the price of the iron for asians construction companies. Asia is one of the biggest importers of iron and steel of the world and this increase in the price will affect not only the construction companies but also the car and products companies by increasing the shipping costs and transport.

In my opinion this is a big problem for Asia because they produce so many things and they have a big world market and if the materials increases the prices will too. this problem will affect also the economy because the world is growing and this kind of events are going to still happening with others materials so we have to be carefull.

Make us safe on campus

From http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/18/campus.safety.irpt/index.html. About Shoot in campus.

Last week the campus happened in NIU, but the same things are not happened the first time. Everyday we just stay in cry and hope never happened agian. But we do nothing. So the author want to use this thing to told us we needs have security in campus to make students safe. And a lot of voice form student want to have needs like extra cameras to make them safe.
Nobody want to this thing happen, school just say do not go outside alone when night, this is right, but way just let students do this not let polices or school make sure night is ok for students. At the weekend, a lot of students will have party, so they will come back late, so this thing will happen in the future, so we needs more polices in coampus. The other way is gun. American can easy to buy gun. so this is the basic why it happen. so goverment needs change law to use gun, not easy to get it and future will be better if control the gun.
Now students needs be more careful in campus, you needs go outside will more people, do not alone at the night, make sure you are safe.

More than half of world's population will have mobile phones this year, UN says

The title of my article is More than half of world's population will have mobile phones this year, UN says. The article is about increasing population of mobile phone users. Especially there are fast rising population of cell phone users in Brazil, Russia, India, and China. UN said people who have mobile phone will be same rate with others who don't have mobile phone. In developing country, many people share their cellphone with others.

Everyone around me have their own cell phones. In my opinion, Globe is getting technology society, many people feel necessary to get machines like cell phone. I got my own mobile phone when I was 13years old. And I changed my phone 4 times because I want to get better cell phone. Now a days, mobile phone is not just telephone. We can play the games, take pictures, see TV or movie, do internet, listen the radio and use dictionary with the mobile phone. Someday everyone in the globe will have mobile phone, I think. But it can make many big problems, so we should prepare for that. For example, it can be big problem that people can't live without cell phone.

How cash can change onlinge games

How cash can change online games

By Mark Ward
Technology Correspondent, BBC News website

Some people who want to improve the characters in their game use the real money to buy skills or items in the online game such as World of Warcraft, Runescape and Tabula Rasa. Therefore, many gamers spend a lot of their money for not real world. Many gamers collect gold day and night in online game. This causes the game world items to be unbalanced. Instead of fighting this, many game companies want to keep the situation in game world under control, therefore, some companies join with Live Gamer, which wants to incorporate buying and selling of game items and skills for real money into the game.

Online games many advantages and disadvantages. This situation could be an advantage or a disadvantage. For user’s point of view, they can enjoy the game and can get a little bit money at the same time. It causes serious problem because changing game money to real money makes more gears. The opposite side’s point of view, it is good business for many game companies. Actually, I had experience to enjoy the game extremely. So, I cannot tell which side is good or bad. Do you think what the good ways to enjoy games are?

Global food safety conference begins today

The title of my article is Global food safety conference begins today

The safety of genetically modified food has been an issue of growing public in Japan.
An international gathering on food safety will start today in Yokohama, Japan for genetically modified food and find a system for detecting such products. More than 30 nations, international organizations and nongovernmental organizations will discuss issues on genetically modified food in the five-day. The participants are expected to discuss "traceability," or a comprehensive tracking system for genetically modified food, to cover the stages from production.
It is still not unclear whether the members of the commission will be able to strike a deal, but the participants will discuss for the safety of generically modified food.

This food problem is getting important discuss and serious among us. We eat various foods every day, and foods always should be safe. Sometimes I see the package which shows "used genetically modified food" at super market and store. It is easy to see whether genetically modified food is used or not for consumers. I think it is good idea, but there are still a lot of food which genetically modified food is used. People don't know genetically modified food well, but it can be dangerous for our body and health even food production goes efficiently and a lot production. We should make safe food system and safe foods through connecting the food and agriculture organization and the World Health Organization.

Nurse Contracting HIV from Patient

I read "Nurse Contracting HIV from Patient" on BBC news website on Thursday, 14 February 2008. The article tells the story of the nurse who died seven years after been infected by HIV. The Nurse is Juliet Young who was infected when the needle slipped and pricked her thumb even that she was wearing gloves while she was taking blood from an infected patient in London's Maudsley Psychiatric Hospital. She died because of pneumonia after devolving Aids. Also, The court's decision is that it is an accidental death. Finally, there was only five cases where health workers contracting HIV from patient in The United Kingdom.

I was interested in this article because in English for academic purposes 1 core class i wrote one of my reading reaction journal about a doctor who made a mistake while doing a surgery to a patient causing him to die, and this story is the opposite of my article. These kind of story always interest me and made wonder of what we should do about it. Who should we punish and should we give the nurses reimbursements because these kind of things could happen to any one of us when he goes to the hospital. Actually, my friend Mohammad Alghiaeb had a similar experience when he went to the hospital, and the nurse asked him to do a blood test, and she pricked him a lot making his arms to bleed because she had no experience on doing this kind of tests. Any way, medical mistakes could happen to anyone, it could happen to patients and health workers. Therefore, we must find a solution for it and we must address the issues that lead to these kind of mistakes.

Gunman Opens Fire at Nourthern Illinois University

The title of my article is Gunman Opens Fire at N. Illinois U. Hall. It discusses about an incident which happened at an Illinois University. A man who had a shotgun and two handguns shot in a class at Nothern Illinois University. There are 17 victims. Then, the gunman committed suicide after shooting. The university gave a statement that there are no threat in the University on the Web site about 1 hour after shooting. The 4th shooting caused at a United States school in a week.

Guns are one of the most serious problem in the U.S. American government should think about a property in guns. There is no end to the incidents which is related to guns. I am always wondering why Americans have guns. It's for self-defence or for other reasons. I think that we do not need to have guns in our life. I think there are no incident which is related to it if there are no guns. Also, the decline in the incident related to guns is up to us. School should be the most safety place.

6 shot dead, including gunman, at Northern Illinois University

This article retrieved from CNN on February 14, 2008 talks about a terrible tragedy at Northern Illinois University where a gunman shot against a group of people killing five of them before killing himself. The motives for the murders are still unknown. He was an ex student at NIU, and according to references of his ex teachers, Stephen Kazmierczak was a very good student. He was awarded a few years ago at Northern Illinois University because he was a outstanding student while he was enrolled at the university. According to an interview given by Rosie Moroni a witness at the scene to CNN, she was outside Cole Hall near the King Commons when she heard shots coming from the classroom she was heading to. The shot was followed by "a lot of people screaming," then people ran out the doors yelling, "He's got a gun, call 9-1-1," she said. The classes were cancelled Thursday and Friday, and the campus remained closed.

What is going on with our youth and society? What happened to Stephen Kazmierczak? What were his motives to kill these people? What are we going to do? What is motivating people to act in strange ways, bringing pain, sadness, sorrow, fear and death, to community? This was neither the first nor the worst tragedy that occurred in an American University. In fact, it is becoming common hearing about shootings anywhere, either provoked by students or ex students in schools or by particular people in different public places as occurred in a commercial centre in Omaha, Nebraska a few months ago. There was also a shooting in a commercial centre in Chicago, Illinois just two weeks ago. Today there is in mourning not only Northern Illinois University but also relatives and friends of those people that without reason died because someone had an unknown problem, that at this point no one knows for sure what happened.

India facing smoking death crisis

According to the new England journal of medicine study found that India facing smoking death crisis.< http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/2/hi/health/7239722.stm > In India 900,000 people were died a year by the smoking. This study states that if there will no action tack for this smoking may be smoking will sky rocket in future. This is the truth that just one thing smoking, which can prevent one death in ten of indian people. 20% of male and 5% of female deaths between age of 30-69. The researcher says that men who smoke bidi (small hand rolled cigarettes made from the leaves with tobacco.) they will lose their 6 years of lives. for the women 8 years. apprroxly there are 120 million smokers in india. The government of india is trying to come up with some restrictions and trying to solve this problem.

my opinion says that government should come up with the new ideas or smoking policy. This will help to decrease the health problems of the smokers as well as others. Smoking is bed for the smokers and also for nonsmokers because it's smoke is very harmful to people's health. However, smokers have rights to smoke but it must not be a harmful to non smokers because they have rights to get smoke free air.

Tattoos may help deliver vaccine

Tattoos may help deliver vaccine

I found this article in BBC news specially the science and nature column. It is about tattoo possibility to deliver some vaccine. Tests have been successful on mice and researchers think that it can be useful to in the cases where injection have failed. The effect of tattoo needles stimulates more antibodies production. The problem is that it cause pain and may not be use for common vaccines as measles. Researchers think it can be good for the animals’ vaccination.
The article states also that tattoo practice was spread because of electronic tattoo machine invention.

I am interested in this new because tattoo practice offers a lot of ethic controversial issues and it has an important cultural concern. Sometime tattoo is not seen to sign of responsibility and it may imply that a person come from a specific class or specific group. Traditionally it used to be a mark of ethnic belonging, of the position occupied in the group, or sign of an event. It can simply be esthetic practice.
The fact that it can cause pain is his contrast side. It means that people should have good reason to accept go through this fact. People from some ethnic group, actually in Africa have abandoned the practice because of the painful effect.
Another fact is that tattoo has contributed to spread diseases as AIDS.

Spain struggle to tackle sport racism

The title of my artcle is title
Racism is an issue in Spanish sport and also reflects the attitudes in Spanish society. Although serious discrimination or violence is not prevalent in Spain. They like to make fun of someone by using race. Four years ago, there's an international friendly in Madrid. Few british football players were abused by the Spanish fans but it's regularly occurs in Spanish league games. A famous editor of Spain's biggest sports paper said that" It's been exaggerated in the news. It's only 4 or 5 people who were doing this things." Compare to Spain, British society is sensitive about race although there are still serious problems. The racial problems happen on a football field or in motor racing are a reflection of the reality of day to day life in Spain.
My opinion is Everyone has his or her stereotypes but we should respect others especially other racial people.

Heart risk of watching football

The title of my artcle is title
The news is from BBC News but in this article, football means soccer not American football. According to this article, study showed that cardiac emergencies(heart diease) usually occurre in the matches especially with a penalty shoot.
A cardiac nurse said that althought football matches might cause heart diease and more series like sleep deprivation, smoking, binge drinking, and poor diet.
My opinion is some people might think a country who is strong or not depends on how their athletes perform like how many golds they earn in the Olympics? or Who won the FIFA World Cup? So win or lose for them is absolutely important. That's why they are so nervous and intense when they watch the football games.

caffeine that moves glucose from the blood and into muscle and other cells in the body. That would make blood glouse become higher. But the research is not finished yet. The study just only examine 10 people. So it is still can be observed.

In my opinion , it is better not to drink too much coffie. Even though that wouldn't make diabetes , if you are addicted to caffine,
you would become novious without drinking it even one day .I read the information from other news .So take everything no out of control.

Exercise aids depression, say GPs

I read "Exercise aids depression, say GPs" in the BBC online news. This article shows one good solution for depression which is exercising. GPs found that there is an increase in the numbers of the doctors who recommend that their depressed patients try the exercises as a treatment for their bad situation or bad moods, and it is better to exercise than to take medicine. Exercising gives the patient more confidence because it offers a good looking and shapely body which will reflect the patient's feeling, and it increases the endorphins which is a brain chemical making the person feel good. There are many positive effects of exercising on the people in their relationships and health. Depression is A very complex issue that we should care about and try to solve with exercising, because many doctors now believe in the great benefits of exercising.

This article attracted me because I believe that everyone has some bad moods in his/her life and I feel like depression is one way that may lead the person to suicide or doing some strange actions. I will talk about myself, her in Carbondale I don't have close friends or relatives or any family member, so sometimes I become in a bad mood, then I just throw anything in my hand away and go out to walk in the street and this action really changes my mood and gives me good feeling. Moreover, two weeks ago I started to go the REC center every weekend to play volleyball with some Saudi's friends and I became happier. So, I really believe that exercising affect my mood and giveS me good feeling, because of many things such as, laughing with my friends while playing volleyball, and controlling my weight. Finally, i believe that sports affect my mood and make me better.

Fire Ravages South Korea Landmark

The title of my article is Fire ravages South Korea landmark. Namdaemun, the Great South Gate, was destroyed maybe because of an arson attack. The Gate was the oldest wooden gate of South Korea made in 14th century, and it was considered as the first national treasure in Seowl. The blaze happened on February 10th and burned most parts. The gate was ok during Japanese occupation and the Korean War. Koreans are sorrowful. It is said that it will take three years to repair and cost $21 million.

This is a terrible news. The arson should not be happened because people lose valuable old buildings and people may be involved. In Japan, there are two huge statues of Buddha, and one of them was burned right hand because of an arson. Many Japanese were shocked and I understand how Koreans feel now. It is difficult to restore because old people used a classic architecture. The cost might be a problem, too. Japan will probably start some campaigns to raise maney for Korea. If it was an arson, the arsonist should be given a death sentence. I hope the police analyze the cause of fire.

South Korea probes 'cell phone death'

In BBC News’ article (2007),"South Korea probes ‘cell phone death’”, the article explains the factor how cell phone killed a person and what the truth of death is. First, the article discusses that Korean reporters wrote a report an article on their media that detonating mobile phone battery killed a person in July. Next, the article says that some people said that there are some defects in this cell phone and some reporters in China made wrong information that this issue was ascribed to changes of temperatures. Finally, the article claims that LG telecom discussed that the cell phone is not affected at all and the investigation of the matter has not yet been finished.

Nowadays, cell phones are in general use in the world and many kinds of high-tech cell phone have developed rapidly. I think that Korea is a leading country of information and telecommunication, and people in Korea use the cell phone to various purposes for a good while, so I was interested in reading about cell phone death in Korea. I think that cell phone is computer and people want to recieve extensive servies, however, people have to use the high-tech products carefully because I think cell phone is also one of machines so that it may create mechanical faults like superheating, electric discharge.

tattoos may help deliver vaccine

this news is talk about tattos could be a useful way of delivering therapeutic vaccines in humans, including for some cancers. Such vaccines have often failed to produce the expected immune response when delivered using an injection. Now researchers in Germany say that the rapidly vibrating tattoo needle could be a useful way of delivering vaccines under the skin instead of insoluble ink. The scientists say that the tattoo needles would never be suitable for preventative vaccines. But there may well be a role for the technique in the routine vaccination of animals.

Having tattoos is a very bravely thing I think. Because it may really hurt and may deliver vaccine. It must to take a big risk to get one. Tattoos play an important part in human culture. They can be someone's attitude or style. Having tattoos are become more and more popular. However, I still afraid of getting one, especially after reading this news. In Taiwan, there is one aboriginal tribe, some women have to get a tattoo that means they have high statue in thier tribe. However, this tradition become much less. Maybe they knew this kind of news before.

Cildren and violence on television

I went to the website the article talks about children and violence on television. It says that most of American children watch television 3-4 hours every day. television is bad for some of them because it can influance on thier behavior. Also, it can increase the aggressiveress in the children. On the other hand, parents are one of the cause because they do not watch their children.

I think the parents have to control their children when they let them watch television. The children like to do what they see on the television and they do not care about it. It is bad for their behavior. It is dangoures for children to watch scary moive because they will imagine that scary thing and maybe they are afarid of that thing. Also, when the children see some crim maybe it will effect in their behavior. So i suggest to the parents to choice the right show for their children.

History of the State of the Union

According to CNN about the History of the State of the Union, President George W. Bush as an example has to deliver his annual State of the Union address. This presidential speech is different from others because every term of year or the president has to deliver a speech about his administration achievements and about his goal for the upcoming year. This topic is mainly about how they decided to do the annual speech. The first speech was given by George Washington who delivered his speech by "message" on January 8,1790. His successor John Adams delivered his annual speech in person before congress. However Thomas Jefferson thought that Washington's speech was "monarchical and time consuming" and therefore decided to send a message to the congress. Since that day, over 112 years U.S presidents sent a written message to the congress. But in 1913, President Woodrow Wilson decided to resume the practice of delivering the message in person to both houses of Congress. The arrival of new technology enable president to communicate and broadcast their speech by radio and Harry S Truman was the first who did it. Today George W.Bush usually delivers his annual speech at an evening session of Congress during the second third of fourth week of January and by broadcasting and web casting to an international audience.
I think the U.S congress made a really amazing progress in how the president should present their speech and today it is by web casting on live and written in the newspaper.

Honestly, all of us are liars

At some point, people have lied. For example, a person explained to human resources that he had missed the big company meeting because his grandmother died … again. Sometimes people lie because they want other people to see them the way they wish they were, to spare others’ feelings or to avoid conflict. Furthermore, lying is pretty regular phenomenon. Statistically, people lied at least once to 30 percent above of the people they contacted. Interestingly, people tend to tell serious lies to people closed to them due to protect their relationship. However, except honest, people also value compassionate, or kindness. It is hardly to be a completely person. As a result, to prevent from embarrassing circumstance, it is better to be frank.

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/01/21/social.liars/index.html

From my point of view, being honest is probably the most important characteristic based on my background. I remembered that my mother always told me: If you lie, you will be like Pinocchio who gets longer nose. On the other hand, lying is an unavoidable behavior that every one does. Sometimes people have to lie to achieve specific purpose. For example, salesmen usually flatter customers to make good first impression and promote products. Also, people compliment others to avoid conflict or embarrassment. Lies are not dangerous, but people who lie are dangerous. We must not get used to lie, furthermore, we must not lie with bad intention.

Most middle class still can't buy a house

The title of my article is title
This article is mainly about even though the house price is decreasing, there are still a lot of people can’t afford it. Especially nurses, fireman, or teachers. And they still have to fact the high rental problem in the metro area. They always sacrifice for their housing. Those we called middle class is not the poorest one, someone whose job is a server or retailer can’t afford the rental of median-priced house.
In my opinion, the government should do some plans to help them can owe their house. Maybe they can discuss to the bank grant them a loan for buying a house. Most middle class don’t think they can have their own house in the metro areas, so the house in the rural area can cut down some price. In Taiwan, though the price of house in the metro area also expensive, the government offers welfare to the people. We have the national apartments. Most of them all locate in the city. Only the middle class or some works can buy it with the lower price. I think it the good policy to help them. They don’t have to pay extra money to rent the house. Maybe the U.S can try to do it.

Terrible Tornado, Twisters

According to NBS News (2008), “Twisters Kill At Least 52 In Southern States: Highest Toll in Tennessee; Tornado Watches Continue Today in Ala, Fla, Ga.,” the strong tornado caused at least 52 people be killed and several people be injured. First, the article mentions that the U.S. government tried to remove people from the damage and a lot of people do not have electricity because of the awful tornado. Next, the article shows some examples about people’s experience from the tornado. For instance, the family, Seavia Dixon, whose new truck was upside-down and was lucky to survive in the disaster. However, another family is not lucky from the disaster. One of their family members passed away because he tried to find the position of the roads in their pickup truck. In conclusion, the U.S president, Bush, said that the government was ready to deal with any problems from tornado so people do not worry about the tornado.

In my opinion, because of the global warming, there are more and more disasters in the world, and people have to find ways to save problems. For example, in Taiwan we have a lot of typhoon that is result in many calamities. Every year the government tries to find some solutions to protect the disaster. However, it is possible for them to handle any situations and many people lost a lot of things, such as hope, life or house. In fact, the greatest way to solve all the problems we have is to protect the environment. Therefore, it is really true that all the people have responsibility to treasure our earth because we only have one earth.

Getting serious about global warming

The title of my article is title

Industrialized countries need to reduce their greenhouse-gas emission by an average 5 percent from 1990 levels during the 2008-2012. Kyoto Protocol was agreed in 1997. This agreement is climate changing to reduce greenhouse-gas. 84 countries subscribed and 172 countries concluded this agreement. Japan must cut its greenhouse-gas emission 1990 baseline, gas absorption by forest, and emissions-quota purchases. The government also must consider the possibility that the cost of carrying out these things may become more expensive than expected- more than ¥1 trillion over the five years. The government needs to development to make effort to reduce missions. Also, it needs to carry out nationwide energy-saving campaigns that involve households, offices and retailers.

You have heard Global Warming many times and you have already known this is crucial problem. I think spreading the use of renewable energy sources is important idea from my class, environmental-energy, EAP2-CORE. Japan making concrete efforts and meaningful proposals to demonstrate to the world how serious it is about climate change issues. I really hope it affects lot countries and people should care more about environment such as to be family with environment. In July in this summer, Japan will host the summit of G8 and climate change is expected to top of agenda.
G8- Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom, United State.

Vanity Fair Cancels Its Oscars Party

I hardly imagine that, if I go to the McDonald to buy meal, they only provide me with the beef noodle. Now, Vanity Fair canceled their Oscars Party. Since the writer stroke, lots of ceremony and party canceled or change. Although I don’t like this bad news, but I basically support the writer. The moment the movie’s box office is brilliant, the moviemaker gets lots of benefit. In addition, the movie stars also gets lots of money, but the writer just gets few salary if compared to the movie stars. That is ridiculously unfair. What are reasons make the movies box office good? There are many reasons to make the box office good such as the story, the star, and the divertissement. But I’m sure, if the movie’s story is awful, the box office is usually bad. That is why I support the writer.

Chinese dumpling scare hits Japan

The title of my article is here

The article is about Chinese dumpling. China exported dumpling to Japan and there were much insecticide in it. At least 10 people got sick after eating them and the number of victims could be about 500. Health Ministry official said insecticide which was used in farms would not remain so much. Now some supermarkets stopped selling the Chinese imported dumpling and others removed all food imported from China. Some schools also stopped serving them for students.

I think companies should give consumers safety and comfort because consumers pay money to get products. If a company makes food which is not fresh and delicious, it will be difficult for the company to continue the business. Also, it will take a long time that people believe the safety of the products and begin to buy them again. It's a big issue becuase a big department store in Japan removed all food from China even though products were not made by a company which made dumpling with insecticide. It will influence both Chinese and Japanese economy.

China cuts online video a little slack

The title of my article is China cuts online video a little slack China relieved new internet controls that had limited video-sharing to state companies. In addition, private competitors already operating in the fast-growing arena may continue. Also, any new video-sharing companies must comply with the rules produced by government. And there’re some statistics show that online video has exploded in popularity in China, which has 210 million online users.

In my opinion, the people who put the video online should responsible for video-sharing limits. If I’m the user, I’ll put video online depend on what the content it is. So now the China government has declared that they should follow the rule but it’s not severe. And I also agree that there should not be more limitation about sharing. Because that’s we humans’ business and good thing should share with people from all over the world. However, the video-sharing companies should control the content of video. In order to protect the society, they must do that, or they will be responsible for the bad influence on society. So I think both government and companies should face and deal with these tasks.

Sniffling mice raise therapy hope

I read this article in BBC Online News. The study, led by London's Imperial College, appears in Nature Medicine. In the past, the scientists cannot use mouse do a research with asthma and comma cold, because the viruses cannot bind to the mouse version of the same receptor. But now, the latest research has succeeded in modifying the mouse receptor so it is more like the human version. It is a new hope for patients who have asthma or easy catch a cold.

After I read this article, I feel disappointed and disgraced. Most human think we are the owner of the world and our lives are more important than the others. So, scientists use a lot of animals to do the test for medical therapy, daily products, skin care, and cosmetic. Does those entire animals test are necessary? The answer is no. Actually, animals’ genes are different with humans’; scientists still need do the human test after animal test. So, why we need animal test? Recently, I saw some photographs, which really let me cry. For example, I saw a human’s ear is growing on the rat’s back; human burns a dog because they want to know the function of a new medicine. A dog’s feet was crushed and do not accept any therapy because the scientists want to know if this situation will cause any mental problems. Those injuries should not happened, human does not has right to abuse the other creatures. This is just my opinion, I want to know yours, let we discussion in the class.

Milk in tea 'blocks health gains'

This is the article I read http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6241139.stm

I read an article whose name is "Milk in tea blocks health gains". This article is about if we add milk in the tea that will affect its ability to protect heart disease. This article said the black tea is good to prevent heart disease and blood pressure problems. However, the report found the proteins in milk that are called caseins could affect the advantage. Although the research shows adding milk in tea is not good for preventing disease, still there are have a lot of experts against this point. They said it is very small research, it cannot affect people a lot or it maybe just will occur with a small number of people. Other experts said drinking milk in tea will be good to boost calcium intake, and tea has benefits so it doesn't matter wherever you use milk or not, just keep drinking. In the end, even though this research does not succeeded in affecting people, it is very positive research to show tea is a healthy drink for people.

This article is interesting and related to me because I like drinking milk tea. When I was in Taiwan I drank it a lot. When I found this article I was really surprised. I thought milk was a really good and healthy drink for people and if I mixed milk in tea that would become very delicious, but if we put that in tea that will become harmful for our body. First, I was really worried about it, but later I found some expert said that is not really harmful for everyone. Therefore, maybe it is not a serious problem, then I decide I will still drink milk but not too much.

Pregnancy does cause memory loss

The title of my article is title

According to two Australian researchers, they found the women lose some memory during the time they pregnant. For example, a pregnant woman is more likely to forget telephone but they are able to remember the number they dialed many time before. The researchers say that might cause because of the changes of hormonal. The kind of symptom will extend up to a year after birth.

Pregnant is a normal process to women who really want to have baby. They have to suffer from many thing including hurt, inconvenient and it take a long time for waiting. My mom tells me when a woman pregnant that mean some nutritious will be take away from mother to baby so mother become unhealthy than before but they don't have any complaint. No matter this news is true or not i don't think it will influence women decide to have a baby or not.

Mixed-race Couples

This news is talking about mixed-race relationship in the UK. The woman named Rena, she is an Indian, and her boyfriend is a black. Her family was very opposed to her relationship. Because there is so much opposition between a black and an Asian, like language, culture, family value and so on. Her parents thought she would be looked down upon in the community. However, she found some experiences of racism that they can share between a black and an Asian. Her parents finally changed their attitudes and accepted their relationship. It really took a lot of time.

This case is a happy ending. I believe that there are many stories like this, but it could be impossible that every story is a happy ending. I agree to Rena said, "universal values and principles are far more important than sharing the same culture, religion or skin color." Although there are a ton of difficulties mixed-race couple may face, I do believe that the true love can beat all problem. If the fate is coming, and they really fall in love, then who cares about skin color or something like this.

HEALTHY FAST FOOD

Fast food nutrition is it possible?. America has been called a "fast food nation", because Americans do not have time and this kind of food is fast and cheap. Fast food restaurants are not the most nutritious option. Fast food meals are higher in calories, sodium and salt. Also fast food meals are lacked in important vitamins and minerals. There are good news nowadays fast food restaurants are adding healthier menu option. We can make healthy fast food if you follow some tips. Keep in mind portion control on meals, eliminate fat and calorie sauces or dressing, drink water instead of soda.

Even though we try to avoid this kind of food, sometimes we cannot avoid it. This article shows us how can we make fast food a little bit healthy or less harmful. I think is really difficult for Americans to eat healthy food. Restaurants should make healthy food and there will be less disease because of nutrition. Also we give us time to prepare our lunch at home and be healthier.

The FBI wants palm prints, eye scans, tattoo mapping

CNN reports The FBI wants palm prints, eye scans, tattoo mapping about the balance between a safer society and a surveillance society. The FBI is going to launch a program about creating a massive database that will collect biometric information. The FBI says this database can help keep the terrorists out, protect our citizens, our children from living in a dangerous country. In order to identify a potential suspect more efficiently, the future database contains palm prints, scars, tattoos, iris eye patterns, and facial shapes. However, critics say people are being forced to give up too much personal information. The FBI sometimes runs background checks for people applying sensitive jobs in the government. Furthermore, an employer could ask the FBI to keep the prints of an employee on file for future reference --- in case the person ever has any criminal records. Some other problems including how reliable these new database will be and can the FBI collect these information only on criminals and those seeking sensitive jobs.

The line between privacy and national security is becoming unclear. The government tends to tell people that sacrificing a little privacy is better than suffering from terrorist attacks or violence crime that might happen in your neighborhood. Of course, these are the advantages. However, there is always a debate about surveillance society. The federal government might overrule the state governments under the name of national security and force them to collect more private information from people. For violence crime like series killer or sex offender, this new expanding database could help, but for terrorists attack? Maybe not. They have so strong believes that they will find other ways to avoid being detected by police or authorities in order to accomplish their mission.

public asked to check on children

the title of my article is public asked to check on children

Summary:
A government strategy says children’s safe is fundamental to their happiness and school result. Now government should build new system for approving venues to cut down organize school trip. The government must address from two issues. The first one is children often fear of reprisal. Lot of children and young people told to author that they don’t feel save when they hang out with their friends. Most of parents would like to protect their children and intervene when he found their children in danger. But expert say that adult should interne reservation. Because they might mistreat other children and it might cause their children be revenged. The other thing is the trip that learning outside. The author mentions about recently when teacher take children learning outside, they try to make more and more security. These teacher will hope the guide from new government will help them are less likely to be sued.

Opinion:
My opinion is that children’s safe is really important. Because they are too young to protect themselves. So the government should do more guides about how to protect children. Especially they might suffer revenge from their friends in school or after school. The revenge from friend is very common situation everywhere and it is the hardest to prevent than other situation. So if government could take something new guide to avert these things, it will be most effective way for children’s safety. Beside it also talks about learning outside. There are lots of different kinds of accidents during travel outside such as car accident. It is really hard to prevent these things. We all know that things in red type will be less effective. This situation is very serious situation in Taiwan. There are lots of news about it. I think if the government in Taiwan also can build new system for children, it will be really good thing for every parents.

Global warming could lead to increase in thunderstorms

The title of my article isGlobal warming could lead to increase in thunderstorms

In now days, green house effect has become more and more serious. But unfortunately , most of human beings don't really care about this issue. Our earth get warmer and warmer. The iceberg is melting, the sea level is rising, and the climate is changing. Most important of all, our earth is dying. From the article, I learned that if we don't face the problem and keep destroying her, one day we will be the victims, too.

Has anyone seem the movie "the day after tomorrow"? Is that terrible? Have you ever imagined it could happen in the real life? Honestly, it is happening now. The earth seemed loose her own balance. Maldive was a beautiful country with hundred of islands, but after 20 to 40 years, it will be no longer exist. Because the weather is changing, lots of citys will disappear after few years, including New York, Shaun Hai, San Francisco, etc.

I hope everyone who has read this article would change the way he treat our environment and our earth. I don't want to be regretful when I get old. Because it's too late to do everything. I do believe now we still have the opportunity to save the world. And I hope everyone of you could join us . Or at list do something to save our world!

Because of obesity,we can not have supper in the restaurant

I heard this news(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22997073/) from the msnbc and the title is "Sorry, you’re too fat to eat here".It is about a lawmaker of Mississippi wants to ban restaurants from serving food to obese customers and be polite, but the lawmaker never even expected his plan to become law.According to a 2007 study by the Trust for America`s Health ,more than 30% of adults in Mississippii are considered it obese. It is very obvious to news that most people think this bill is "absurd" and the state House Public Health Committee chairman,Democrat Steve Holland of Plantersville, said he is going to “shred” it.Finaly, the lawmaker apologize with regret by saying that,"I`m sorry-you can`t do it by treating adults ike children and tell them what they can eat and cannot eat.
I choosed this article because it`s fanny to hear it becomes law that stoping
obesity having supper in the restaurant. In my opinion, the way the lawmaker wants to try is not corret, but he just want to control the large number of obesity in Mississippis. In the USA,obesity is one of the most severe problems of publics` health. If I were obese and stopped by the waiter in a restaurant, regardless of his attitud,I wouold very angery. It`s a kind of discrimination. How can you say that I am obese? It`s too absurd to put in place. However,we should be concentrated on the root that why there are so many obesities in America. That is the point.

US sees job cuts as economy cools

The title of my article is Us sees job cuts as econmy cools. According to the article, since August 2003, US economy entered a recession. And now, employment is cut a lot. This year on January, emplyers cut 17,000 jobs and besides, economist expects the number of unemployee to go to a rise of 80,000. Therefore, US congress and the Bush Administration have agreed an "economic stimulus package" which would add $150 billion in tax rebates to grow economy. HOwevere, the plan is not passed yet because Senate does not approve. Now US faces a economy crisis. In future, US economy would be more worse than now and affect labour market.

Now, this problem is very serious in US. US trys to solve it, but I think the ways are not good. Because twice in nine days cutting US interest rates disturbs the economy. "economy stimulou package" also confuses economy. Cutting jobs affect many employees. They are fired and do not have jobs. Increasing of unemployees makes a lot of crimes or homeless. So the economy problem leads to many other problems. Solution of the problemis is very hard to think. So I think US also need to develop support system of unemployee.

China waging 'war' against havoc caused by snow

My article is about the snow disaster in China. The title is China waging 'war' against havoc caused by snow. Recent days should be happy days because of the Chinese New Year, yet 14 provinces in China's central, southern and eastern regions have met the worst winter weather in 50 years--the snow disaster. This terrible disaster has affected at least 100 million people and has caused 60 deaths so far. An Egyptian meteorological official said this Monday that this disaster could be connected to air cyclone change and the La Nina phenomenon, the climatic opposite of El Nino. And till now more than 158,000 PLA troops and the Chinese People's Armed Police(PAP) and 303,000 paramilitary members have joined the anti-snow campaign. And the Jing-guang rail way has finally worked in normal and the 2 million stranded passengers have finally got on the train to home from Guangzhou Station. China's Premier Wen Jiabao has been to the stricken regions three times.
Such is the horrible effect due to the climate change

Today, I want to discuss if you were stranded in the stricken regions and your family were waiting for you to have the dinner for the new year, would you choose to go home in whatever ways or stay in the stricken regions celebrating the new year alone?
If you were the Premier of China, what would you do before, in and after the disaster?

In my opinion, I will go home in whatever ways, even walk to the unstricken areas. Because after one year's alone I want to meet my familly and I don't want to have the new year dinner without my parents. I miss my parents and so do they. If I were the Premier I would focus on the weather change and prevent the disaster and I would also go to the stricken regions to condole the affected people. And after the disaster I would set up a special office to deal with the affairs about the disaster.

The remembrance of the past is the teacher of the future. We should remember we have only ONE earth, we should protect our Mother!

The Amazon Gets Less and Less Green

I read this news from time.com. The article discusses deforestation in Brazil is still rising. The new researches show area of deforestation is wider than before. The environment Ministry tried to discuss a method for stopping the destruction. The environment Ministry will send 800 federal police offices to control this situation. The environment Ministry tell landowners that owners need to follow their environmental policy. If they don’t follow the policies, the government will stop selling their products from their land. But this policy didn’t work very well on the area that is in a remote region. Environment groups don’t believe this policy will work because Brazil is the biggest exporter about beef and soy. The deforestation rise when the commodity price rises. Another worrying thing is that deforestation in west of Brazil is getting worse. Two hydro-electric dam on the largest tributary of Amazon damage the environment. If the situation is not improved, it will be a bad nature in the future.

Deforestation is a big problem in Amazon but the situation seems to be worse and worse. I think Brazil government needs to send more police officers to protect this biggest tropic rainforest in the word. Stopping commercial benefits that comes form deforestation is the main method to protect rainforest. Protecting rainforest also saves different species to live in the earth. The most urgent assignment is preventing illegal deforestation from destroying our beautiful forest and let forests absorb more CO2 to decline the global warming.

Chinese freeze strands thousands

This news is talk about the severe winter weather is causing travel chaos in China as tens of millions of people try to return home for Chinese New Year. In the southern Guangdong province most trains have been cancelled. And some areas running out of salt to spread on icy surfaces, causing many people are stranded because of blocked roads. Some people killed by the sever weather. However, in the southern China used to milder winters, it is an urgently work to the government to deal with it. So Guangzhou's authorities have arranged temporary shelters in school and other public buildings for passengers who stuck at the station.

In the news it mentioned that the weather in southern China used to milder winters. But this year it becam sever winter, causing lots of problems. I think it's not only a single case in China but it's the problem over the world. Due to the global warming, the weather is becoming unusual. So I think we have to figure out solutions to solve the tough problem. There are something everyone can do to our earth. Such as turn off the light if you don't need it, and do recycling, reducing, reusing. Do as much as we can to protect our globe.

iphone

I went to this site. The article talks about the Iphhone unlocked. The iphone is a cellphone made by Apple company. The company made this kind of cellphone and they locked it to make more money, so that people can not use it with other networks. The people use some programs to break the lock of this cell phone to use it in other networks. The Apple company loses more money because of this people who braek the lock of the iphone. They try to make the iphone more safer to use it just in their network.

I think it is kind of stealing to use this cell phone in other networks. When you have a wireless network at your house and you made a lock on it how will you feel when some one else uses it and you dont know about it. It is a kind of stealing to use something speific. How about if you break the lock of it. This is like when you spend alot of time to make some thing then when you finshed it some one come and made the same thing in a short time with bad quality and steal your idea.

Stars put celebration ahead of strike

The title of my article is Stars put celebration ahead of strike

WGA(Writers Guild of America) has struck against "new media" (DVD, Internet TV...etc).They claim that they have the right to gain their portion which is from profits sold DVD or Internet TV, and they also state they will go on the strike until their demands accept. Owing to the strike that has continued for 3 months, Golden Globe Awards was cancelled. Moreover, Academy Awards could be cancelled. On the othe hand, SAG awards was held. This can be the only award to celebrate movies this year.

My opinion is that I do not think it is the best way solve the problem. Actually, they had claimed that for a long time and it has not been succeed in, but the strike would cause more damege not only them but other fields. I have never thought that a strike is usual. In Japan, we can hardly see a strike. I was also surprised that lots of people support WGA. I wonder they can take action because the public opinion help them. Anyway, I feel bored that those awards were cancelled.

US economic growth drops sharply

US economic growth fell sharply in the last three months of 2007 as the credit crunch took effect, figures show.

The US Department of Commerce says the economy grew at an annual rate of just 0.6% from October to December.
In the previous three months, between July and September, the economy was growing at annual rate of 4.9%.
The slowdown was triggered by a slump in building activity, which fell by 16.9%, the biggest fall in 25 years, as housing prices collapsed.

I think this is a big problem for the US because is worst than expected for the analysts. who were expecting a reduction to a 1.2% annual growth rate.
the US economic slowdown will be longer and deeper than previously, and will have a greater impact on the world economy. this mean that the US Dollar will drop it value thats a big problem.

Satellite is weeks away from hitting Earth

According to the CNN.com updated on Monday, January 28, 2008. The U.S. government said a spy satellite has lost power and propulsion and could hit the Earth in late February or March. However, the satellite could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down. Nation Security Council said numerous satellites over the years have fallen harmlessly. Besides, they have informed the lawmakers and other nations are being apprised of the situation.

In my opinion, I think the U.S. government should take this issue seriously and be responsible for the whole situation if there will be any great damages caused by the fallen satellite. In addition, the U.S. government should have some ways to deal with a situation before they sent the satellite to the space. Although they presented
many evidences to prove that there are only few possibilities the satellite will hit the Earth or harmless to people. All in all, it is not a good example on many sides.

Debate about the death penalty-lethal injuction

I found this article from MSNBS site.

As you can see this article is about lethal injection, the one method of death penalty. Kentucky death row inmate Ralph Baze, who was convicted of killing a Powell County sheriff and deputy say the three drugs used by Kentucky for execution are far too complex, and that they violate his constitutional right against cruel and unusual punishment. (the Bill of Right : Amendments to the Constitution 8th)
Baze bring an suit about this to the U.S. Supreme Court.
and the Supreme Court review this problem now.

The execution of the death penalty exist many methods. for example, electrocution, hanging, firing squad, gas chamber, decapitation ect.
the lethal injection is adopted recently, as alternative of other methods.

I think If the Supreme Court decide that Lethal Injection is violated The Right of Freedom From the cruel and unusual punishment, It means abolition of the death penalty without adopting less painful methods than lethal injection.
but In my experience, the death penalty is necessary to preventing crimes, social security etc.
