Author : Jesse McKinley
Titel : Legal-Marijuana Adovocates Focus on a New Green
Publication : The New York Times
Date : 2010, March 25

Summary
According to the article, legal-marijuana adovocate in San Francisco insists that the government has to legalize selling marijuana because of their fiscal. However, it is not easy, and it will bring some problems. Therefore, the goverment still do not permit it without prescriptions.

Discussion
1. Is it really harmless than alcohol?
2. Is it really helpful for the government?
3. If the governmet admit it, can they control marijuana smokers?

Reaction
I think selling marijuana will be helpful to solve financial problems, but they should not legalize it bcause it is still one of drugs. Surely, some reseacher show that marijuana is harmless than alcohol or cigarette, but it is also harmless for human's body. To legalize marjuana for their financial is not right and smart way, I think.

In this article, "Cyber-harassment: teens can't escape torment," the author mentions cyber-bulling problems. Nowadays, a number of students can use internet without permission, so they can access any cite easity, such as Facebook. Title : Anti-Abortion Ads split Atlanta
Publication : NY Times
Date of the article : February 5, 2010

Summary
In this article, Anti-Abortion groups erected the billboards which insist on warning of abortion among black women. They claim that the rate of black women's abortion is highest than before and it affects fertility rate a lot. And also, it mentions many abortion clinics are in places where blacks reside, and these clinics target many black women, so these influence the rate of black women's abrtion. However, the birth rate and the fertility rate among black women is higher than in other countries. Also, the abortion clinics insist that they open their clinics because many black women want to have a talk with them.

Issue
1. Why are they tring to influence black women?
2. Why are rates increasing? Are they really increasing?
3. What should be done about this? Should abourtion be legal?

Reaction
I think that the increasing of abortion rates among the black women is a big chance and is meanigful because the community whose birth rate is high is the black women' world even though the birth rate has declined all over the world. Therefore, it can affect the world change. The reason of black women's higher abortion rate and higher mortality rate are less education and poverty. Therefore, the abortion clinic among the black women has the meanings of affirmative and negative at the same time, and they can have an important role in the community. In the society whose infant mortality rate is higher, without the consideration and understanding about their culutures and lives based on the developed countries's standpoints, it can be leadto fatal blows. So the abortion clinics should try to educate about the childcare, pregnancy and birth control to black women in order to give influence positively.

The report talks about some advice that comes from Dr.Yousuf Ahamad, who is a doctor in the prestigious Imam Mohammad bin Saud University in Riyadh. He said people should not bring non-Muslim women household workers because they impact Muslim children. That is because non-Muslim women household workers have different religions and cultures. Also, he suggests the Saudi’s government should care about that and they should follow the government’s rule such as cover their faces with veils.
Issues that you can find:
Many Saudi people do not agree with him about not allowing non-Muslim women household workers inside their home, because they think his opinion is just a personal opinion, and they think the household workers do not effect on the children if the children have a good parent who teaches them ethics and manners.

Summary of the article:
The author discusses the big event that happened in Iran last month. An old woman is called Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, and is 43 years old. This woman is convicted of adultery. Also, the author mentions international pressures to pardon the woman, who is an adulterer. He says the Iran government executed over 100 people this year, but the timing of Sakineh announced was difficult because it comes while the Iran government does not agree with the international pressures that want to stop its nuclear program. In addition, the author mentions that international pressures continue to be imposed on the Iran government not to hurt her.
Issues that you can find:
The article presents many struggles between the Iran government and Iran human rights and prominent human rights pressure regarding Sakineh. They want to impose on the Iran government not to hurt her while Iran government wants to stone her to death.
My opinion:
I think many countries are more different than others in propaganda, behaviors, and values. Each country is able to manage its community and punish any person who makes any mistake by its codes and rules. Also, each country does not allow another country to intervene in its issues as each country has its own privacy. For example, the Iran government has a big event that many international media talk about. I think the Iran government has a code and it is able to punish any guilty person. Also, today, if any country has special events, many countries want to intervene in this country and transfer these events to political events.

Is the Death Penalty Cruel and Unusual?

Shinmyung Lee
News Talk
Aricle Report

Author : John Barry

Title of article : Is the Death Penalty Cruel and Unusual?

Publication : May 3, 2000

Short Summary :

In the article, the author mentions tha death pemalt's pros and cons.
The author says USA's criminal justice system is not quite perfect; also in the death penalty can be no turning back, so it should be bolished. On the other hand, a way of protecting serial killer is only the death penalty; also, nowadays technology can support whether they commited a crime or not. Then, the article shows some information about the death penalty such as execution of an innocent person and countries which abolished capital punishment.

Issue that i find :

-Do you agree with the death penalty? Why? or Why not?
-Do you think death penalty cold decrease the rate of crime?
-In your opinion, what punishment should get criminal who commits a consecutively?

My opinion :

In my opinion, the death penalty should be abolished as soon as possible. The death penalty is th ultimate denial of huan rughts, and all law is based on human rights. In addition, people use the death penalty as a way of revenge, but it would be the wrong purpose. Moreover, the death penalty would not decrease the crime rate; also without using the death penalty, the safety of society can be assured. Furthermore, the death penalty has a huge risk like executing innocent people. Thus, the death penalty must be abolished soon.

Test-Tubes Babies may face greater health risks than naturally conceived children.

Author name: Moisse, K
Publication: Scientific American
Date of article: (2010,February 23)
Summary of the article:
In this article, Katie Moisse says that in vitro fertilization babies can be more susceptible to some health problems. After expansion in reproductive techniques, researchers founds some chromosomal changes that caused abnormal DNA methylation among in vitro fertilizated babies which led to some chronic diseases or rare congenital syndromes. In fact, DNA methylation defects could be found in other diseas in people who naturally conceived. Although, to prove the relationship between in vitro fertilization and DNA methylation defects and diseases, researchers had applied in vitro fertilization to animals that were found to give abnormal results.

Issues that you can find:
-Do you think IVF technique helpful to people?
-Do you think that some people prefer to have babies through IVF?
_ In your opinion, could you believe that ther are some side effects from using this technique?
- Why do you think that test tube babies may face greater health risks than naturally conceved children?
-Do you think the older women are more suceptible to these cases?

My opinion:
In my opinion, this article could be stronger if the author discussed group ages and at the end giving us his group ages and which age would be more suitable and effective to undergo this procedure, becouse older women, whose eggs are already weaker, often turn to IVF. In addition, the researchers did not test infertile people to determin whether the DNA methylation tied to these artificial reproductive procedures or would likely be link to these people genetically! Indeed, the aim of this article is to expand parents' knowledge and to inform them about these kinds of cases rather than making them upset, exactly as what the auther said.
