Short summary of the Survey:

      In the CESL, we have a class called “EAP1-A Newstalk”. It’s fond of the universal news. Every student should write  two article reports about recent news weekly Also, students talk about two articles every day. One of the interesting activities in this class is collecting surveys. Every student should interview at least five Americans to ask them about the survey. For me, I collected the survey in the Student Center on Tuesday 2-28-2012. In fact, the interviewees were friendly; they were three students in SIU and two instructors in CESL. I collected the surveys face to face and I was writing their responses. Actually, some of them were interested in some questions in the surveys like gay marriage, whereas some of them were surprised by some questions especially the one about the opportunities for Americans to learn about other countries and cultures. Consequently, I would talk about the opportunities for Americans to learn about other countries and cultures.

The Interesting Question:

 Do you feel that Americans have enough opportunities to learn about other countries and cultures?

         In fact, I’m interested in this question because talking about culture is the best topic for me. It boils down to this: twenty-one of the interviewees felt negative toward this question; whereas thirty-one of them felt positive toward the question. Actually, those people who said Americans don’t have opportunities to interact with other cultures and countries surprised me. Some of them said we are isolated. I think Americans have more opportunities than others because America could be the mother of immigrants. Allegedly, there are more than seven hundred universal channels, which may provide enough opportunities to learn about other cultures via their programs. To sum, I think Americans can interact with others because of the previous explanation.

-       Why do electronic toothbrushes cause all of these problems?

-       Can we improve them to be healthy?

-       How can we reduce the risk of using electronic toothbrushes?

Your opinion:

        In my opinion, using toothbrushes is very dangerous because they are very fast and strong. So, if some factories come out with healthy toothbrushes, it will be beneficial and helpful. However, using manual toothbrushes is healthier and it will be in the safe side.

Electric shock to brain may boost memory: Study

       According to the article, using electric shock could help patients with early Alzheimer’s disease to improve their memory. It stimulate patients’ entorhinal cortex, which is the golden gate to the brain’s memory, to return memory.  However, some scientists said it’s not good to use eclectic shock continuously because it could lead to some negative effects.

Issues that you can find:

-         What are the bad effects of electric shock?

-         Is this way beneficial for patients for a long time?

-         Is there any other way to boost memory without using electric shock?

Your opinion:

        In my point of view, I think this way could lead to psychological problems because the patients may be afraid from using electric shock. Also, I know some people who used this medical treatment but their memory didn’t boost for a long time. So, I would recommend coming out with another medical technique to boost patients’ memory.

         According to the article, some scientists in US say we should declare a war on sugar in food like alcohol and tobacco. They say sugar is the core reason of chronic diseases and obesity.  However, some other scientists refute this idea because they think that sugar is not main reason of those diseases. Also, the food company denied this idea because they think the culture of food in US depends on using sugar in the most of diets.

Issues that you can find:

-How can the scientists persuade the American people to reduce the amount of sugar in their food?

- What is the rule of the government toward this idea?

- Is there any other persuasive reason to persuade the people and food company to reduce the amount of sugar in their food?

 Your opinion:

        In my opinion, scientists should announce global awareness campaign to trigger people thinking about the bad effects of overuse of sugar. Also, the government should do something to maintain the people from the global disease like encouraging the citizens to reduce sugar in their food. Moreover, the scientists can be encouraged by healthy organizations to establish a healthy organization considers only on sugar disease.

Your opinion:

       According to my previous preconception about iPhone 5, that is iPhone 4 will be better and more common than it. Because there is a cliché in my home country makes my preconception more effective. But according to the article, I think iPhone 5 has a new design. So, the cliché will not remain for a long time.

Your opinion:
- In my opinion, Saleh rescued himself from Alkathafi’s end and he guarantees a safety for his family in the opposite of Alkathafi and Bashar. On other hand, US wants Yemen to live in peace because there is a good an economical relationship between US and Yemen. Finally, Yemen is waiting a political fight between the new political rule and Saleh’s allies because the Yemenis people don’t want anyone reminds them Saleh’s period rule.
